Those two bad men, Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh, are back! They may be in the city instead of the farm, but they haven't changed their thieving ways. In fact, they've got even more ambitious. They're planning to steal a monkey from the zoo and use it to pinch the Queen's crown. It's a pity for them that a certain crime-busting ladybird is holidaying in the very same city . . . and she's got a good idea that will ensure the dastardly pair won't get away with it! With a whole host of noisy new zoo-animal characters to meet and even a cameo from the Queen, What the Ladybird Heard on Holiday , from stellar picture book partnership Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks, is a sure-fire hit. Featuring glitter on every page and a gorgeously glittery cover. Praise for What the Ladybird Heard :
"Bursting with colour and verve" - Daily Telegraph
"A terrific and witty adventure" - The Guardian

Praise for What the Ladybird Heard Next :
"Donaldson's trademark rhyming couplets bounce along and are perfectly complemented by Lydia Monks's bright and sparkly illustrations" - Mail on Sunday

My daughter is 5 and loves the other ladybird books, this one is just as good. The book is beautifully illustrated and my daughter loves the glittery ladybird on each page. The new characters are brilliant and my daughter thought it was fab that hefty Hugh and lanky Len got tricked again.

What the Ladybird Heard is one of Leo's favorite series of books so he was thrilled to buy this and find out all about the Ladybirds holiday. This is such a lovely edition and Leo loved finding sparkly glitter on the pages. He was very pleased to see his favorite bad characters return and pointed out that they had different clothes. He hopes that they were caught quickly and sent back to jail again!

I took this story to work to read to my Littlies (2-5 years), they were eagerly anticipating what was going to happen on holiday as they are big fans of the original 'What The Ladybird Heard', so much so that the 4 year olds can recite the words. I liked that the writer used the same characters that are familiar to the children from the previous book. The book is filled with lovely, bright, eye-catching illustrations which captured the childrens attention. The words flowed perfectly and created a rhythm which made reading very easy. The children loved this book so much they requested it for story time every day that week! Would definitely recommend for 2-5 year olds.

This is another fantastic book by Julia Donaldson. Having read 'What the Ladybird Heard' we were familiar with the main character in the story. In this adventure the Ladybird is on holiday in London and flies around visiting all the sights. Then she decides to go to the zoo and see all the animals. Whilst she is there the Ladybird also sees Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh who are planning to steal a monkey from the zoo. They want the monkey to help them steal the Queen's crown. The book has the usual rhyming text of a Julia Donaldson story and it also has some amazing and colourful illustrations. The story itself is funny, interesting and full of adventure. We would definitely recommend this book.

Sometimes sequels disappoint, not this book! The ladybird goes on her holiday to London and manages to foil Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len in their plot to steal the Queen's crown. The brightly coloured, glittery pages are so eye catching and the rhyming text makes this a book that is tead over and over again in our house.

A great book, my son enjoys listening to the story about the ladybird hearing about a plot to steal a monkey to steal the queen's jewels, the illistrations are colourful and eye-catching and the glitter on each page makes the pictures even more appealing to youngsters who like to touch the pages. An excellent story that carries on the quality of the previous what the ladybird heard books

The first page had us gripped with the fabulous illustrations of London. Gorgeous colours and use of images. You can't really go wrong with a Julia Donaldson book but I'm always dubious to a sequel however, this one bucked the trend. We read it for the first time (4 and a 2.5 year old) last week , 3 times straight off then at east once a day since. Great characters and rhymes. The queens corgis were a hit as was the page where Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh open the sack!!
Engaging story, beautiful illustrations

A lovely follow on from What the Ladybird Heard and What the Ladybird Heard Next. Nice to see the characters collide a different setting, yet still come across the same pesky thieves! Well written, with clever rhyming text, just as brilliant as the others in the series. I love Lydia's glittery picture too. Just fantastic for all nursery and KS1 children.

Sophie loves this range of books. This is definately the best one so far. We really love the hardback edition. It's very very high quality print and colour. Sophie loves the glitter on the pages. She loves pointing out the ladybird on each page. Sophie really loves rhyming stories and she laughs at all the right places. It's a very funny what the ladybird heard in holiday. We will definately have to complete our Julia Donaldson book collection. She is definitely one of our favourite children's authors of all time.

I enjoyed reading this book to my little boy who is 17 months old. He especially liked the glitter touchy feely bits on every page and the large colourful illustrations of animals. There is lots to point out in this book. I spent a lot of time asking my son "where is the big red bus?", "where is the lion?" etc etc....great for getting little ones to learn new words. The story was fantastic especially the rhymes although a little long for my son he still enjoyed the pictures. I think this is a book that will grow with him as he gets older and he starts to understand a little more.

This is a beautiful book to hold - large and tactile with glitter on the pages. The illustrations are amazing and the pages are busy with lots of things to see and talk about. The reason for only a three star rating from me is actually the subject of the story which revolves around kidnap and stealing which although done within the realms of a children's story are quite scary for a small child. My two-year-old loved the pictures and animals and holding the book but we skated over some of the story.
