I was delighted when our daughter won this giveaway, and the book did not disappoint. Within hours of receiving it she had looked through it, discussed new words with me, and then spent hours creating lots of different things, using art and craft items along with some recycling bits. A really inspirational read with good mixture of photos, text, and broad overview of the subject.

This is a very engaging and well thought out non fiction text.  Both my 5 and 8 year old liked the variety of pages, especially as it covered such topics as cars, space engineers, roller coasters and robots!  I was impressed by the way the book was factual and exciting; the clever use of different layouts and gorgeous colour photos really helped to draw both of my children in.  The text is good, and my 8 year old could read it fine.  There is a great glossary at the back of the book too.  I liked the 'meet the expert' page, and the 'interview with Leonardo da Vinci'.  My 8 year old liked how the book explained what an engineer is, and I was pleased to see that the book wasn't gender specific about any of the points - which makes it great to promote in a STEM week at school.  My 5 year old loved the "cool" photos, and wanted to asked questions about the photos.  Overall I thought the book was very good, full of really interesting facts & photos, and would make an excellent addition to any classroom or home library.  Highly recommend.

This book is full of interesting facts that certainly captured my sons interest. The pages are bright and colourful with lots of photos and packed full of information. My son especially liked the page about sky scrapers as it was about the shard building which we recently went up. He also liked the page about the Eiffel Tower and went straight to his Lego to build his version. Very good book which will be read over again. My dad who works in engineering came over and said what a fantastic book for young children.

This is an amazing book. It has many different sections on engineering ranging from 'What is an engineer?' to 'Nanotechnology' and 'Future engineering'. There is so much to be learnt and it is very well thought out with a section explaining the four different types of engineering as well as a glossary for the slightly trickier words. It contains lots of fantastic pictures and illustrations as well as an amazing amount of facts and figures. There are tasks to do such as matching problems with their solutions as well as interviews with real life engineers. There is so much to learn from this book and we really loved reading it.

My son really likes this book.
Each page is bold and full of information, perfect for any budding engineer who loves inventions.
He loved sitting and telling his dad about the things he's learnt from the book and was lovely to see them sharing some time together discussing the book.

My five year old son is currently obsessed with making, designing and creating things, and is constantly coming up with ideas for fantastical inventions, so this book is perfect for him. His initial reaction was admittedly one of disappointment, as he complained that it was full of things that had already been invented! However, once I explained that if he wanted to create things he would first have to learn the techniques about how to put them together he was soon keen to have a closer look at the book. It has since been a bedtime fixture, and we are now reading a few sections at each storytime.

The book dedicates two pages to a topic and provides bite sized bits of information alongside photographs, drawings and the occasional diagram on topics such as 'Power', 'Skyscrapers' and 'Nanotechnology'. The layout of the pages varies quite a bit, which makes it a more interesting and engaging.  I also particularly like that the section on 'Incredible Engineers' features a mix of women and men of different ethnicities - so many similar books feature only white men, so it is good to have a book that is inclusive.

I suspect that this is a book that I will be reading with my son for many, many hours!

I really liked this book because of all the facts and amazing inventions. I especially enjoyed the part about cars and machines because that's the area of engineering that I'm into. Also the pictures really helped to explain all the facts and inventions that would be hard to understand without. It's not the kind of book that you have to read from front to back, It's just fun to pick it up and read a page! This book is for anyone who likes reading about science and facts.
