This is a stupendous book with a breathtaking visual format, and fills the void in the market for this category of books.
It starts with the story of the Universe and goes on to cover a myriad topics including the age of the dinosaurs, Ancient Egypt, ancient monuments, early Imperial China, and Indian empires, the Vikings, the Ottoman and the Mughal Empire, the British Empire, the voyage of RMS Titanic, the World War I, the World War II, the British rulers and finally, US presidents.
This is a book not to be read in a day or even a few weeks, but to be savoured and enjoyed over several months and years.

Just simply - WOW!  This is a stunning book, another DK reference book that should be on any home or school book shelf!  I was very interested to see how many facts, figures, diagrams and timelines had been included, and I was certainly not disappointed.  It begins with timelines about the big bang / how life on earth started / dinosaurs, and finishes with  timelines about the internet / youth culture / the story of robotics.  It's jammed packed with other timelines, my children loved the 'the story of dance' - which was fascinating for my strictly mad daughter!, 'natural disasters' - my son loved the photos that accompanied the explanations about earthquakes and tornadoes.  I liked the fact that all of history is covered by a timeline in some way, which is very helpful for homework research projects, and when my children have a new interest in a historical period.  I also really liked the layouts of the pages; clear, concise, informative and eye catching - everything a DK book can be relied upon to be!  It's a two fold book - for children it's full of new information that is presented in a way that is easily accessible.  For adults it would make a wonderful reference book to use alongside new research.  In school it would spark off new questions and debates in a classroom or school library, definitively a book worth investing in.  For someone who loves history (like me!) it was incredible to look through.  I would certainly recommend it for aged 8 - adult.  Would make a wonderful Christmas or birthday present too.  A good investment for anyone with a natural curiosity in history around the world.  Would give it 10 stars if I could!

Wow this is an incredible read! Fantastic for all ages, as a family we spent hours pouring over the different pages, from my 7 year old to his 92 year old Great-grandpa! Full of faacinfasci facts, terrific illustrations and easy to follow but in-depth information on all things from Dinosaurs, Titanic, The Internet, Wars, Civilisations and beyond. Any topic covered at school or in conversations we were quickly able to find relevant information and learn new things. A fantastic resource for all ages

This book is beautifully done, huge well spaced pages that explains things very well to the younger readers, yet equally just as well done for the older family members. Loved this book, it’s going to be a firm favourite for quite some time.

This outstanding creative book shows you timelines of everything from The Story of the Universe to The Story of Robotics. The timelines are very creative with the way they are presented. The information is very useful and this book will definitely help me in history at school. My brother and my grandma enjoyed looking at this book too. I’m very happy it’s a hardback and very big so I can keep this beautiful book in good condition and it will last a long time. I really like how much information is in this book. It’s the book I keep coming back to. This is most certainly one of my favourite books I’ve ever read!

I am so impressed with the quality and lay out of this book. There’s so much information but it’s really well presented. The information and facts are set out in a way that’s easy to read and digest. The photographs are highly detailed and the illustrations are brilliant too.
This is a book that we will be able to use over and over again.

This is a huge, heavy book, however the content is spaced out over the page so it doesn't feel overwhelming.
It seems to cover most subjects and I found some pages more intersting than others, however each page is laid out in a timeline fashion and this makes it easy to follow and understand.

This book is non fiction and very interesting. I think I will be coming back to it again and again over the years. It has most subjects in it but my favourite page is the one on robotics.
I think this book will be useful at home when I have history homework as it is easy to understand.

This is a fascinating book - much more detailed than I expected, and covering a wide variety of topics. Each double page spread features a timeline on different topic (and the book has over 300 pages!). The topics are many and varied, including sports, reading, writing, castles, the universe, dinosaurs, feminism, wheels, empires, science, religion, plagues and household appliances. It boasts eye-catching images and clear text - I found myself totally drawn into each individual timeline.

The book is divided into 6 main sections, from pre-history (before 3000 BCE) up to the modern world (post 1914 CE), with each section further subdivided into specific topics (see above!).

This book is a suburb overview of, well, almost everything!
