The welcome return of Oliver and Patch - this time with Ruby and a lost baby penguin too!

Everyone fell in love with these special characters in Oliver and Patch , finding their way in a big city and making new friends . In this story the three friends visit the zoo. They growl at the tigers, smile at the meerkats and laugh at the funny penguins. But when Peep , a little penguin who's new to the zoo, goes missing, the friends must set off together to bring him home.
But it isn't always easy to agree on a plan, and the friends have to overcome some disagreements before everything works out.

Another heartwarming tale of friendship and working as a team from the wonderful picture book partnership of Claire Freedman (author of the ALIENS LOVE UNDERPANTS series) and the brilliant Kate Hindley .

'A touching story about the importance of friendship ... Another heartwarming tale of friendship and working as a team from this bestselling duo. Relaxing and reassuring, this is a gentle read.' Parents in Touch
'A sweet, thoughtful tale of friendship and teamwork, with plenty to linger over in Hindley's detailed artwork' Fiona Noble, Bookseller

Praise for Oliver and Patch:
`Children will enjoy this moving addition to their picture book library that leaves jokes aside to say something a little more thoughtful' Books for Keeps
`This is a beautiful story about the power of friendship, but also of love for animals' Once Upon a Bookcase
`This is a sweet story about friendship and new beginnings that children will warmly appreciate' Kids' Book Review

Review by five Year 2 children

The Lost Penguin is about a penguin that runs away from the zoo. Oliver and Ruby are friends but fight a lot when they are trying to find the penguin. They both want to keep Patch for them self! We loved this book because it is all about friends and we love our friends.

It reminded us of a book that our christmas elf gave us. It was called Penguin by Polly Dunbar. If you like The Lost Penguin then you would really like that.

This story would be great for children in Year 1. It has nice and bright pictures and the story is easy for them to understand. We are going to share the book with our friends in Year 1 now.

Thank you Toppsta for letting us review one of your books. We loved doing this review and talking about the book together. We hope we can do some more soon!

Both Annabelle and ivy loved this book. The illustrations are brilliant and very detailed so you can spend time talking about what you can see. It's such a heart warming story that includes a disagreement between the characters. This encourages children to talk about their arguments and see it from the other side. Has been read many many times and definitely recommend :)

My 21 month old son loves this book! There are relatively few words for a book this length and the pictures are fantastic and there are lots of things to spot in them. It's great for developing word and picture correlation as his vocabulary increases. The story is nice and gentle but as he grows, the story will grow with him and we will be able to talk about how people don't always agree on things.

This is our first introduction to Oliver and Patch and both my daughters (1 and 3) really enjoyed the story.
The story is based on two good friends who enjoy exploring, particularly going to the zoo. At the zoo they notice a rather cute penguin who is new to the zoo but he sadly gets lost. Oliver and Ruby (and dog Patch) do their upmost best to find the penguin but along the way they have a disagreement and things turn a little sour.
The fun, caring friendship that Oliver and Ruby represent is a lovely one for young children to read about but the friendship is also very real. Just as siblings would, Oliver and Ruby bicker but Claire Freedman does a great job at writing about the arguement, the consequences and how the two friends make things better.
The illustrations through out the book are brilliant and my youngest daughter was in particular awe of them. We also love the touch of humour in the way the text and illustrations is organised, particularly when the friends are looking for the penguin. My youngest daughter absolutely loves animals so this was a perfect read for her.
Both my girls would give this book a thumbs up!

I enjoyed reading this book to my 13 month old. We have read it twice, and both times she has been really interested. The illustrations are very eye catching and engaging, the pages are a good size for my child to see the book clearly. I like how words that are meant to be emphasised are in capital letters to make the story more fun.

This is a wonderful gentle story about friendship; Oliver, tip and patch the dog love to do things together. This story is about their day out in the zoo, where they find a baby penguin called peep who is new to the zoo.
Oliver and tip have a falling out and Peep goes missing, the friends make up and travel around the city meeting new people and eventually find peep and take him home where he makes lots of new penguin friends.

We really loved the illustrations in this story, they were very detailed, we even spent lots of time on the endpapers looking at all the animals in there.

The story is a very sweet one about best friends who visit the zoo together and help to find a lost penguin, but have an argument along the way. A good story to show that friends have fallings out but can make up again.

My daughter thought the penguin was super cute and liked spotting him on the pages where they were hunting for him.

This is a beautifully illustrated book that my daughter loved reading with me.  The story about the search for the lost penguin and looking for him on each page kept her really interested.  I also liked the subtle story about how friends sometimes fall out but become friends again was lovely to read.  We will definitely read more stories in the series.

A story of friends who take a trip to the zoo and find a friendly baby penguin who follows them and escapes. The two friends struggle to agree but then come together to work as a team and find the missing penguin.

This is a very sweet and gentle book aimed at young children. It's a fairly straightforward simple story, one to read at quiet time or bedtime. With a little added fun of finding the hidden penguin on a couple of pages.

The illustrations are so beautiful and my favourite part of the whole book and the quality is excellent.

We have a few Claire Freedman books and this one is a lovely addition to our collection. The story is basically about friendship and what happens when it is put to the test. My family really enjoyed reading this book especially as it features a lot of zoo animals!

This is a lovely book, I assume part of a series, though we haven't read any others.
The story follows two friends who fall out but make up, animals who help each other and baby animals - a great combination of morals and "ahhhhh" moments!
My eldest loved the illustrations, theyre detailed and beautiful and animals are all distinguishable, which for a 2 year old can be a feat!
I'd recommend this as one for the book shelf, it's a lovely read

What a beautiful and gentle book. As soon as this arrived Amy 13 minth old was chomping at the bit to read it. Seeing as itsi one of the longer books we have we saved it for bedtime. It's the perfect transition in length from usual books with a similar number of pages but less words, and to be honest itsitwas about tinetwe made the move. This biik is less bild in the illustration than we are useduti but the illustrations are stunning and my daughter coukd pick iut the animals she recognised. This gentle book has a message on multiple levels so I'm sure we'll learn from irifoe years to come. A stost of friendship that includes a little falling out is a fresh change from the usual everything is perfect, teaching our children words have meaning and thinking abiut others feelings is important. A simple short happy story focused ariund friendship and love with animals to boot. A lovely bedtime read for a bikb happy 1+ year old

Oliver, Ruby and Patch are best friends and go to the zoo together. Then a little penguin went missing and they go about looking for it and when they find it, their friendship is put to a test. My little ones enjoyed this book and my girl loved finding the little penguin in the pictures before I did. A sweet book about friendship.

This book has lovely illustrations and nice characters. My daughter is a bit young to sit through the whole book and follow the story but she did like the pictures. The writing on the pages is just about right to keep flow nicely through the story which is easy to follow. Lovely story which features a cute penguin which kids will love.
