You cant beat this classic book. My son was interested in how different the book is compared to the film. The story still has great elements, and is a fun tale of family and the classic first car with personality. ( we read as an audio book)

This book far exceeded my expectations. It is nothing like the film, which we also enjoy, and instead is an exciting, old fashioned adventure story. I am sure this book would appeal to girls and boys alike. We are big Enid blyton fans in this house and this story had some of the same kind of elements as the famous five or the secret seven.    The car is the star of the book and caratacus Potts leads his family on a wild adventure where they encounter baddies but all the time you feel safe and the children have a lovely sense that mum and dad are always there to protect them. It is quite old fashioned in that mum defers to dad and does quaint things like 'run along and pay the bill darling' before dashing off to save her children!    The chapters end on cliff hangers and my boys begged for another one every night, even though on most pages they had to ask the meaning of words. We really improved our vocabulary and it was areal page turner.

In my opinion Chitty chitty bang bang is a really exciting book. It is about the Potts' car called Chitty chitty bang bang which can fly and swim. The Potts have to stop a criminal mastermind! The characters Were a little bit scared at points. It was a really funny book especially where Chitty Chitty Bang Bang said 'Press it idiot'!

This is a fabulous, good old fashioned adventure story full of excitement and mystery. It reminded me of the Famous Five and Secret Seven books I read as a youngster but I was a little concerned it was a bit dated to catch my six year olds attention. I needn't have worried. He loved it and now wants to read the next adventure. Some of the use of words needed a little explanation but the vocabulary used bought Chitty to life and had us both desperate to read the next chapter.  Highly recommended to any child who enjoys a bit of mystery and excitement.

This is a classic story, famous in many countries. Because I knew this it made we want to read the book even more because it's such a popular story.  If you like a funny book, an adventure, a mystery, this is definitely a book for you to read.  By the end of the book I really knew all the characters very well and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was my favourite. She's so clever and that's why I liked her.  I would recommend this well-known story to everyone (especially other 6 year olds).

Thoroughly enjoyed sharing the magic of this book with grandchildren - had seen the film and the stage production with my OWN children but - amazingly - had never actually read the book. Big mistake! The book is excellent - a magical fantasy adventure, a regenerated ex Grand Prix flying car -- eccentric grandfather to be saved in a far off land. A story that is forever young!
