This is a collection of short stories about the horses of Ercall Wood. Every morning Barbara comes cycling up the lane to the big field where Tripsy, Bluebell, Ambrose, Daisy, Blaise and Twinkle live. These are the horses of Ercall Wood and Barbara is the lady who looks after them. During the holidays children come for riding practice and the horses get a chance to stretch their legs along the woodland bridle paths. But Tripsy, the wise old stallion, is becoming feeble with age and the time is coming when he will have to join the other horses in the great stable beyond life on earth.
