From the author of the unforgettable bestseller TIME TRAVELLING WITH A HAMSTER comes another surprising, beautiful and funny novel about a child who, by disappearing, will write herself into your heart forever...
Turning invisible at will: it's one way of curing your acne. But far more drastic than 13 year-old Ethel Leatherhead intended when she tried a combination of untested medicines and a sunbed.
It's fun at first, being invisible. And aided by her friend Boydy, she manages to keep her extraordinary ability secret. Or does she...?
When one day the invisibility fails to wear off, Ethel is thrown into a nightmare of lies and deception as she struggles to keep herself safe, to find the remedy that will make her seen again - and solve the mystery of her own birth...

My son loved 'Time Travelling with a Hamster', and when he realised that two more books had been published in between that and 'The Dog Who Saved the World' he rushed out to get them!  In this book we met Ethel a teenager seeking a cure for her acne. Whilst doing so, she accidentally turns herself invisible.  The ensuing story follows the trials and tribulations of how this impacts on the day to day life of a teenager, and is a starting point for an epic adventure.

My son was gripped by this story, and raced through reading it (a sure sign of a good book).

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I already want to read it again. It was the perfect book to read in bed, although I did get quite emotional and really could have done with a cuddle. Every person that I've spoken to about the book and recommended it to has just heard a repeat rendition of "It's just so good". I felt that Ross Welford did exceptionally well in writing this book and I am now seeking out more of his work. My favourite character is Ethel and Elliot. Ethel is funny, cheerful but easy to anger, Elliot is obsessed with Lighthouses, he's funny in his delivery of what he says. Oh, I also love Mr Parker- I fell a bit in love with him. He uses really great language and I can totally get on board with that. This book was splendid!!

I adore Ross Welford's writing. His books are big, ambitious and full of heart; Invisible is no exception. Ethel is a fantastic main character - when she somehow becomes invisible, she has a well-deserved freak-out and that makes her so relatable and human. Likewise, Welford never shys away from depicting adults as they really are - flawed, but trying to do the best they can, often hiding their weaknesses. At 12, Ethel needs her family and her independence, support but her own secret world too; it's a tricky stage to write convincingly but done very well here. The book is packed with genuinely funny moments along with some very tricky situations, navigating family, friendship and the school bullies too. Highly recommended from Y5 upwards.

Yes, yes and three times yes.

This book is so good I stole it off Ninska and read it at breakfast.

One of the main things is the voice.  We've read two of his books now and both have totally got that thing where you feel like someone is in the room talking to you.

The other thing that strikes me is that these books are ambitious.  Ross Welford is going for a cracking story rolled up in an existential crisis.  It's not an easy thing to pull off but he does it 100%.

Plus it's set in Whitley Bay.  Howay man!
