You're a Bad Man, Mr. Gum was selected as a Tom Fletcher Book Club 2017 title.

Shabba me whiskers! It's that bestselling and award-winning first ever Mr Gum book by Andy Stanton. The Mr Gum books are only the craziest, funniest most best books for children in the whole wide world.

Good evening. Mr Gum is a complete horror who hates children, animals, fun and corn on the cob. This book's all about him. And an angry fairy who lives in his bathtub. And Jake the dog, and a little girl called Polly and an evil, stinky butcher all covered in guts. And there's heroes and sweets and adventures and EVERYTHING.

Perfect for fans of Roald Dahl and David Walliams.

Today he is best-known for the hilarious and much-loved Mr Gum books, which are published in 34 countries worldwide in over 30 languages. The series has won numerous awards, including the inaugural Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Red House Children's Book Award and two Blue Peter Book Awards.

I've probably found Mr Gum quite late in the game. He's been sitting on my shelf for some time but i just haven't gotten round to reading about him, this week though i was looking for something to read while i was ill in bed that might cheer me up and this certainly did the job- it was insanely funny and silly, exactly what i needed!

Jem really loved this book and sat laughng to himself whilst reading it.  He likes the books as they are funny and Mr Gum is cheeky and sometimes a bit rude to people.  The characters are in his words a little bit crazy.  I would definitely recommend this book for both boys and girls.

If your children likr Ronald Dahl they are sure to like Mr Gum. The book is rip roaringly funny - Mr Gum is a revolting character who hates an awful lot of things , such as anything fun or children. The best bit is the come uppence that he gets from a fairy who is quite happy to hit him on the head with a saucepan. A sure fire hit of a book.

Having not read Mr Gum before I didn't know what I was in for. It's very funny! Mr Gum is just gross and not very nice and he always seems to be up to no good. Both of my children giggled all the way through this story. I'm pretty certain that we will end up buying the rest of these books as this one was loved so much!

I read this book as my sister told me it was funny and it really is! I enjoyed it so much I'm reading the whole series of them! They are very easy to read and they only take me 1 night to read each one. The pictures are really fun too!

We have come relatively late to the Mr Gum series and are now making up for lost time. This first book in the set introduces all the (ridiculous) characters in a simple, hilarious and often disgusting manner. The story zips along at a fast pace with an impressive joke count keeping a mixed audience in giggles when read aloud.
Mr Gum is a mean old man and this story of his allies and enemies is a must read - be prepared for surreal humour and completely original supporting characters.
Slight warning for squeamish readers, quite a lot of references to offal and poisoning dogs in this one but had our 6 and 8 yr old boys begging for 'just one more chapter' each night!

Any book about an angry fairy that hits people with frying pan while they are in the bath tub is definitely going to appeal to young readers!  Utterly ridiculous with absurd humour this book is insanely funny, both to young listeners and grown up readers alike.  My son loves this series of books, and loves joining in with the catchphrases of this series. Any book that makes a child laugh uproariously has to be good value for money.

I liked this book because the main character is bad, lazy and "funty" and made me laugh. I now want to read all the others.

I loved this book even though I wasn't sure I would because on the  cover he looks a bit horrible. The characters were really funny, especially the fairy who hits Mr Gum with a frying pan if his garden is a mess. I really enjoyed the story because it made me laugh and I couldn't stop reading, I finished it in 2 days! I think girls and boys would like this book and I have started the next Mr Gum book.

This book is really funny and a bit yukky too. It doesn't have too much to read on each page and has some pictures so doesn't take too long to read either.  I think it is really good for younger children, but some of the jokes might be a bit tricky for them to understand.

We were recommended this book as a good chapter book for younger children. My 5 year old thought it was hilarious (so much so we had to stop reading it at bedtime and just read it in the day!). Mr Gum is a disgusting man living in a dirty house, but for some reason he has an amazing garden. Jake the local dog loves to run through it but why does Mr Gum want to keep him out? Will he do something really bad? There are lots of funny characters and touches throughout the book (my son LOVES Polly's real name) and a lot of it feels quite Roald Dahl-y. We are definitely going to read more in the series.

As a mum reading this to my daughter, I didn't get it at all , I found it had no real plot or story line. Yet my daughter love Mr Gum, must be one that only kids get.
