Meet Claude - the ordinary dog with an extraordinary life - in this very special short story created especially for World Book Day 2019 . The Great Waggy Avenue Dog Show is happening today - and there are medals galore to be won! Claude nearly wags his tail off and Sir Bobblysock's bobbles tingle with excitement. If only they knew a dog so Claude and Sir Bobblysock could take part . . . Praise for the Claude series:
'Quirky illustrations and plenty of humour' Metro Claude is now the star of his very own TV show on Disney Junior with 52 episodes.

We really enjoyed this book. My daughter loves animals, and books that have animals in. She really liked Claude's sock friend, Sir Bobblysock, and she thought it silly but funny, that his friend was a sock. It was a fun, enjoyable book. My daughter loves the illustrations  and enjoyed how Claude and Butch, aka Sir Bobblysock saved the day, and ended up with a medal after all

We love Claude! And Sir Bobblysock too! These books are just the right size to read to my daughter now she is enjoying chapter books more. Still lots of pictures to enjoy, but a bit more to the stories. The story was very funny, as always with Claude books, and made my daughter laugh. She loves getting this series from the library.

A delightful story which children will enjoy. Lovely detail and illustrations. If you like dogs or competitions this is a great book for you. Great competitions - the Nice Lie Down competition - poor Sir Bobblysock (I mean Butch)!

We haven't read any of the Claude books but have read Mr Penguin and loved it. This book is great and made us laugh. It took us a minute to work out who Mr. BobblySocks was and then my boy found him the best character. My girl really enjoyed  the way they got the dog out of the tree. A lovely story.

I would rate this book 5 stars simply for the page before the title page which has a lovely range of sentences to entice the reader in. After reading the book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story moves on nicely with a mixture of dialogue, action and description. It is very funny in places and well written by the author, Alex T Smith. I would recommend this book to children between the ages of 7 and 9 who like light-hearted humorous fiction.

This was a very unusual book. All about Claude the dog that wants to enter a dog competition but doesn’t have a dog so has to have help from his friend. It shows how rewarding it can be from not quitting and always trying your best. A lovely little book.

We both loved this story, how the story develops and the characters names made us both giggle.
The illustrations make it fun to look at as well as read. Lots of discussion points in the story in a fun way.
This is a lovely bedtime story that could be told a number of times picking out different themes each time.

We are all big fans of Claude having read quite a few books from the main series. Claude is a lovely dog who has some fantastical adventures with his best friend Sir Bobblysock (the sock). In this short story Claude and Sir Bobblysock come across a sign for a dog show offering shiny medals as prizes. They are both extremely excited by the idea and start daydreaming about what they would do with their medals if they won. Then Claude suddenly realises they have a big problem - the show is for pet dogs and they don't have one or even know one! Before Sir Bobblysock can help guide his best friend to the right conclusion Claude hits upon a fantastical idea to save the day. He uses his trusty beret to find just what he needs and the two of them set off for the dog show. They meet the judge of the show Mr. Jack Russell and have an exciting time trying their very best to win some shiny medals to take home. We really enjoyed reading this book and it definitely made us laugh. There are some brilliant characters and lots of wonderful red, white and black pictures. We highly recommend reading it and the rest of the Claude series!

As fans of the Mr Penguin series by this author, this World Day Book is a great introduction to his series of Claude books. My son loves dogs, and will be sure to love this tale of Claude and his friend Sir Bobblysock.  Seeing a poster for a Dog Show in the local park, Claude (despite being a dog himself...) decides to dress up his friend as a dog so that they can take part.  With many gallant attempts they enter all the competitions. Will they win a much coveted medal?  This book is very sweet, and is heart-warming with its emphasis on the importance of taking part and the rewards of being kind.  I am sure that my son will love this book and we will now look up the rest of the Claude books.

This is the first 'Claude' book that we have read and we enjoyed it. It's just the right level for my four-year-old who is starting to progress to slighly longer books but not so long as to lose her attention. She loved the picture of Claude and parituclarly liked his clothes. She was also keen on his friends' names, thinking they are hilarious. It has inspired us to look for other Claude books.

Any book that uses the word ‘skedaddled’ is a winner for me...this is a fun little story!

We became Claude fans after we read Alex T Smith’s gorgeous ‘Winston’ advent book...Alex cleverly entertains adults as well as children using some hilarious tongue in cheek names...my lo loves the illustrations, we usually read the longer stories over a couple of nights, we read this one in just one sitting.

I really enjoyed the silhouette pages and Lo loved Sir Bobblysock doing an agility course (as we had watched the same on Crufts the night before). Well worth the WBD £1...get it quick, before they disappear...

Good book for younger people. It is about trying and trying and trying and taking part then you may get rewarded. I was encouraged by the blurb on the back and front cover to read this book,  the illustrations were clear and colourful. I really enjoyed the book.

This is another funny Claude book in a perfect size for a quick story. Claude sees a poster for a dog show one day and gets very excited - but he doesn't have a pet dog, what can he do? He and Sir Bobblysock come up with a plan so they can take part. All the other dogs seem to win medals but maybe something will happen where Claude and Sir Bobblysock will show how great they are. We love Alex T Smith's illustrations, they are so fun and appealing to look at. A great choice for your World Book Day token.
