Sophie Johnson studied very hard to become a detective and it's a good thing she did - there has been a terrible crime!

Someone has stolen Lion's tail. Unfortunately, this means that Sophie doesn't have time to train her new (and not very good) assistant, Bella.

However, is it possible that, while Sophie is busy rounding up suspects, she doesn't see that Bella may be better than she thinks?

We thought this was book great. Our favourite character was Bella the dog. We also thought that Sophie was a really funny character. The illustrations are beautiful, they have lots of detail and they are very colourful. We would definitely recommend this book to our friends in KS1 and some of us would like to read this to our younger brothers and sisters.

A lovely book with fantastic illustrations and a very attractive cover. A lovely story about Sophie Johnson a budding detective with a 2nd story about her partner Bella. In Sophie’s eyes Bella has a lot to learn but in reality Bella is already a very good detective. Every time you read another picture stands out. Recommended for children 3+

Evie and I have previously read Sophie Johnson: Unicorn Expert and really enjoyed it.  Detective Genius follows a similar pattern to the previous book- Sophie tells us her version of events but the pictures show that there may be more to the situation than asophie is aware of.  In Detective Genius we are told how successful a detective Sophie is and how her new assistant (her dog) can get distracted.  However, the pictures make it clear who the real detective genius is.
Evie is a little too young to get the humour that comes from the disparity between Sophie’s Words and the pictures but she loves listening to the story and pointing out what is happening in the pictures.  I really love the relationship between the words  and illustrations and think that this is a book that we’ll get more and more out of as she gets older.

Wonderful clever story about the very confident little girl who is a detective genius and her dog. My children loved the humour hidden in the illustrations as we discover Sophie is not the only detective in the house...

A great book with room to grow. My 2.5 year old daughter loved the images and pointed out many things in the short and easy read. Her dad and myself found it very funny. As she grows and understands the storey more and learns to read the book herself she’ll see the humour just like us. For this reason this book has longevity unlike some books with have a shorter age range. Light hearted fun and easy read.

My son adored the colourful cover, it certainly caught his eye and made him want to settle down for the story. The illustrations were perfect and age appropriate. I dont want to give the plot away and spoil it for any potential readers but she's one good detective! My son loved it

This is a nice book with colourful illustrations. One story is being told from the perspective of Sophie Johnson: Detective Genius and there’s another story in the pictures from the point of view of her assistant Bella. My daughter likes the story but hasn’t figured out the funny second story in the pictures yet, but it just means there’s room to grow for the book.

We really enjoyed reading this and have repeated a few times since we've received it. We hadn't read about Sophie Johnson before but after reading this have the previous story now on order. My daughter was initial drawn in by the cover and that Sophie had a magnifying glass. My daughter always carries her own around so this is something she really liked and compared it to hers. The illustrations really make this funny and clever story. I did have to explain to my daughter what was happening in the images as I felt she was still maybe a little young to fully appreciate what was taking place in the background. I think it will definitely be one that grows with her as she gets older. I even notice more myself the more we read the story. I particularly like the sign on the dolls house at the end. For me it really creates the brilliant imagination of a child's 'real' play. It has the nice shuttle kind of humour I like in books. Where it has a funny side without being silly. Will look forward to reading more of Sophie's adventures.
