Lula and Lenka are best friends and total opposites - Lula is a Dog Person and Lenka is a Cat Person; Lula is super messy and Lenka is neat and tidy; Lula likes talking to people and Lenka likes watching people - but together they make the perfect pair. Until The Day that Everything Goes Wrong ... and suddenly the girls are no longer friends. What started as a day like any other ends with Lula and Lenka ignoring each other and sitting on opposite sides of the classroom. As the days go by Lula makes a new friend who talks almost as much as she does, while Lenka just plays on her own. In spite of feeling lonely, neither one is prepared to listen or forgive ... or to say sorry. Will it be this way forever?

A thoughtful story exploring friendship and the importance of listening and keeping an open mind.

We really enjoyed this lovely book and the beautiful illustrations. It was written in an interesting way showing both characters perspectives which helped us talk about other people's feelings. Great book for all especially those navigating friendships.

Lovely hardback book with beautiful illustrations.

My daughter enjoyed reading this book to me and looking at the pictures as she went.

I asked her what she thought of the story and she said she liked it but she didn’t like the part where they fell out and weren’t friends.

It was lovely for the story to show that you can be friends with people even if you don’t like all the same things.

This book is about lifelong friends who face an argument that threatens to separate them forever. The question is if they will be able to get past the worst day ever and remain friends. This books covers many ideas of friendship in a gentle and engaging way. The girls are very different and have to come up with ways to compromise and retain their individuality even before the problem. Every child can identify with some aspect of one or both girls, making it easy to be pulled into the story. The illustrations are simple and emotive, pulling you in further. And the text creatively uses different tones depending on which girl is narrating at that point. It's a clever way to involve you and make the story seem more realistic. It does make it important to have two distinct voices when reading aloud. My daughter loved this story and had it read in one bedtime sitting. And she wanted it the next night. It's a great source of conversation about a topic that can be difficult for young children to face.

This book is about two girls named Lulu and Lenka who are best friends. That is until they break up. My favourite part is Lulu is so excited to give a present and when there are two different friends that they get along with. A beautifully illustrated story about the beauty of friendship. The colour illustrations made me whizz through the book.

Lula and Lenka have been best friends since they were born. Their characters were totally different but it didn't matter until their friendship was spoilt by a little argument. They had to find the way to sort the problem and it wasn't easy.
What a wonderful story with a fantastic message. Not only are the illustrations really sweet and amazing but also the morale to the story is easy enough for my 6 year old to understand and learn from. It's brilliantly written and got the message through exceptionally well. The book is solid, great quality so can be a great gift! My daughter chooses it as a bed time book which is the best recommendation.

We really enjoyed this book, it was about two little girls who were best friends but then had a fallen out. The story switches between characters so you get to see how each girl feels. The illustrations were lovely as well.

This is a warm and thoughtful story, which highlights the ups and downs of friendship and demonstrates how being brave enough both to forgive and to say sorry can make life much brighter again.  Both Lula and Lenka are likeable and relatable characters and we liked how each girl is so different from the other.  I particularly love how this story has been crafted: both girls narrate in the first person and each has her own font, so it is clear who is speaking.  The differing font sizes provide interest on the page, and the colourful, expressive illustrations are plentiful and add visual impact to the book.  It would be enjoyed by those who are interested in friendship stories, and, of course, for anyone who has fallen out with their BFF and needs a little help to get their friendship back on track...

This is a lovely book about 2 best friends who fall out over something silly and discover that the world is not the same without them being together as friends.
The characters are relate-able and the book really draws you into their story.
It is written in 2 different font colours (Black and Grey), Black for Lula and Grey for Lenka and we read it together being the different characters.
It has beautiful colour illustration throughout which add to the story.

My 5 year old enjoys this book but has taken her time to talk about it as it really hits home with the friendship/peer politics for her age group at the moment. It’s perfectly aimed at children building stamina and confidence in reading.
This story of the stumbles of true friendship is a lovely read but also learning opportunities especially for young girls not to fall into the traps of unkindness and mushrooming misunderstandings instead of talking about feelings.
My daughter says this book is good because it shows you don’t have to love the same things or be the same to be best friends, best friends like you for you and that it says it’s ok to say sorry even if it’s scary.
The illustrations are gorgeous and I (mummy) like the use of different fonts to explore each girl’s feelings.
We would definitely get more in this range from Stripes.

This story is super relatable for my 6 year old as emotions run so high in friendships at this age. Ivy really enjoyed the story and we had lots of conversation regarding the goings on and how she would deal with it if she was to be faced with the same situation. She liked the happy ending. The illustrations are beautiful and colourful and were appealing to Ivy from the moment it arrived.

I saw this book and thought it would be a great book to share with my daughter. It was longer than I expected, but such a lovely way to tell a story. The story follows the friendship of two girls who have a disagreement. The way it is set out, allows you to understand the thoughts and feelings of both girls. My daughter really liked that they resolved the situation in the end and became friends again.

A sweet story of a simple fall out between two friends who with a series of misunderstanding causes the fight to be prolonged but eventually they make up at the end of the story. a quick ready which is perfect for young children who have fall outs with friends. The illustration is bright and fun.

A lovely book, with beautiful illustrations. Good, age appropriate vocabulary for my 7yo, strong reader. It was a helpful social story. The only downside was that my daughter found the format difficult and confusing- though she is autistic, and a neuro typical child may not struggle with it at all, and I'd imagine it would be good for teaching empathy. It is written entirely in the first person, with the font changing for each girl. Teddy found it difficult to figure out who was speaking, and largely used the illustrations to help with this. Still a lovely book that we will read again, but with adult assistance.
