Read aloud by broadcaster Lauren Laverne, The Paper Dolls book and CD is a stunning, rhythmical story of childhood, memory and the power of imagination from Julia Donaldson, the author of The Gruffalo , and illustrating talent Rebecca Cobb. A string of paper dolls go on a fantastical adventure through the house and out into the garden. They soon escape the clutches of the toy dinosaur and the snapping jaws of the oven-glove crocodile, but then a very real pair of scissors threatens . . . Enjoy more from Julia Donaldson and Rebecca Cobb: It's a Little Baby and There's an Owl in my Towel .

This book is so lovely, I have enjoyed having it read to me many times. It has been very helpful to me during sad times as it reminds me that the people and things that we love are always there in our hearts and our memories.

The book is quick and easy to read with lots of beautiful pictures to look at, which makes it nice for children of all ages and for parents too.

This is a beautifully illustrated picture book. It shows a little girl with a wonderful imagination playing with the paper dolls her mother made her. It shows gently how people and things remain in your memory long after they are lost. My daughter really enjoys this story. Be prepared to make your own paper dolls too.

This is my favourite Julia Donaldson book. I like how it rhymes, and how the dolls stick together. I got a bit sad at one point but it ended happy.

Great book. Love the rhythm and flow of the book. I even sing some parts of the book. It's really sweet about a little girl who plays with some paper dolls her mum makes her.

Can I just say how much I adore.. and when I say adore, I mean, absolutely adore this book! I've had this book for years and years, it has been a firm favourite in all that time. I always love reading it and I don't think I will ever tire of it. It's beautifully written, filled with happiness and sadness, I guess you could say that it is bittersweet. The illustrations, by Rebecca Cobb, are a triumph! I love the ending and it always makes happy because it's the sort of thing my Mum would do with me.

I loved reading this book to my 4 year old, we've had it since her older sister was about her age so a lovely story to pass down.
The characters have names that are easily remembered and my daughter likes to read along when it gets to parts that say the names of the paper dolls, and has a little giggle at the names too.

Lovely story and a great present for any young girls too.

The lightness of touch in the illustrations is really lovely in this book. It's a quirky story that has that special something..you're not quite sure what..but just that feeling, a tug on the heartstrings that means you'll always remember that point in your life when your kids were little and you read the story about paper dolls. It's a very special read :)

This book is wonderful from start to finish. The story line is really sweet with a lovely message behind it. I feel it’s a really special read. Both myself and my daughter really enjoyed this story. The illustrations are beautiful too.

Very lovely book about a girl who plays with her paper dolls which her mother helped her made.

I never read this type of book to my children and it was a first for me as well.

It had a nice flow to the storyline

We love Julia Donaldson, but this one just wasn't out favourite. My daughter didn't warm to the paper doll theme running throughout and got a bit bored. We will try again when she is older as she may just not be ready for it yet. It would be good for a simple story sack if you made some paper dolls that could be coloured in and used alongside the story. Beautiful illustrations. Hope we grow in to it!
