This is such a beautifully written book. Such a lovely tale that pulls at the heart strings. The drawings are wonderful. As the mummy’s tale goes on the pictures flow with the words. A really enjoyable book that will be loved for years to come. My new favourite book to read to Anna.

We love Judith kerr in our house but this story was a bit different then I expected from the title. It has gorgeous illustration and my daughter did enjoy reading it. While I think the book fits in well with todays society with parents on the phone too much and not enough attention to little ones. We will enjoy reading it many more times and having it it in our collection.

This isn’t like other books in our collection, which are usually rhyming stories with a faster pace.

It was a lovely book to sit down and relax with after a busy morning at the park, and the storyline seems very much like real life, with characters you can relate to. Though the storyline was not really what I was expecting from the title.

The illustrations are beautiful, with lots of detail and really take you to an English Park on a sunny day.

This is a beautiful looking hardback book with a lovely sleeve over the cover. It has some gorgeous illustrations and we are already fans of Judith Kerr's books. We struggled slightly with this one. My little one loved listening to the fantastical adventure that the child went on and the story is very imaginative. However as a parent I found it hard reading the story and watching the child in dangerous situations whilst the mother chatted on her mobile phone. It is a nice book but I think some children may be concerned for the child in the story.

This book has lovely illustrations and whilst the story is nice and I can relate to it as a Mummy- my 1 & 4 year old didn’t engage with it at all. There are no funny parts or rhyming sections.
They both enjoyed the illustrations and we talked about what was happening in each.

Gosh this is not what I was expecting at all from the title. It's beautiful book with gorgeous illustrations full of adventure to inspire my little one. Sadly that's where the positives end.

This book left me feeling angry. The mother is busy on her phone while the child is ignored and gets up to all sorts of danger we warn against. It's not magical, it's neglect or parent shaming...I'm not sure what the author was intending.

The narrative could work as a bed time read as it doesn't demand concentration to follow a story.  I think instead though I'll be encouraging my daughter to create her own story from the lovely illustrations and ignore the text entirely.

I was pretty disappointed in this story. The illustrations are lovely and I love other Judith Kerr books so I was really looking forward to reading it to my son, but the actual story was not at all what I expected. It has been cleverly designed so that two stories are going on simultaneously. The mother is on her mobile phone talking with her friend, whilst the child is unattended playing in the park. I presumed "Mummy Time" meant child's time with mummy, but it turned out to mean, mummy's time for herself, whilst the child amuses himself. I guess it's very reflective of the society we live in, but personally I found it a depressing angle for a children's story and I doubt I'll read it to my son again.

My little girl enjoyed the babys adventures but the story juxtapostion with the mums conversation went over her head so I don't think she fully understood it. Not the best story from Judith Kerr.

When we received this book, who couldn't wait to read it as we love the author. But after reading the first  couple of pages, I really disliked how mothers were being portrayed and the baby left to do anything. Especially the last page suggesting they had a lovely time when there was no interaction between mummy and baby, as mummy sat on her phone talking about people from the night before.

The title and the cover of this book make it look like a lovely reading experience for Mummy and child. However, the context of the story is a real eye opener for us modern day parents and left me with a feeling of guilt. It felt like a dig at parents and because of that the content of the story was lost for the child. It could be gained through the beautiful illustrations so all was not lost. I would prefer to talk though the story with my child rather than use the actual printed text. Its shows a great adventure and strong friendship.

Whilst the illustrations in this book are lovely and the child in it looks like they are having a wonderful time, as a mummy the story made me sad. It’s cleverly written and my little one enjoyed looking at the pictures of all the animals in the adventure but I don’t think this will be a favourite in our house just because of the story. It’s a shame, this wasn’t what I was expecting the story to be about.

This story  wasn't quite what we expected. The pictures and characters are beautifully illustrated and helped to transport you into the characters world. Although this story reflected aspects of modern life, my four year old did not fully comprehend the narrative and was concerned primarily with what happens to the young child in the book.

I was quite disappointed with this book as there are so many Judith Kerr books that we really love. The illustrations are beautiful and we did really enjoy looking at them, the adventure that the child gets up to is fun and interesting but I just didn't like how the book portrayed the mother. The child has an adventure because mum is distracted and on her mobile phone. I thought this book would be a perfect mothers day type book to make people feel special and like good mums but it nstead it would make you feel guilty and like a bad parent. Not what I expected from the front cover pic!

I didn’t like reading this book to my child. Why would I want to read a book about a mother neglecting her child in the park? I don’t really understand what the author was thinking when she wrote this story, it’s almost like it’s a joke Childrens book for adults. It’s a shame as the illustrations are beautiful but I really don’t like it.

My husband read this story to our four year old and he came away looking mildly shocked. We had grown up with all the classic Judith Kerr books and sadly expected the same engaging story to await us. However, this story was really upsetting to my husband. We can understand that sadly the storyline can reflect some individuals in society who are constantly on their mobile and not making eye contact, safeguarding or actively interacting with their family. However, it just seemed to be a book written from a place of anger and quite disturbing about how many times the child had near misses with their life. It honestly does not feel like a nurturing and reliable Judith Kerr tale, beyond disappointing.
