This "Curricular-Links-Science" series is a fresh look at popular primary science themes that provide engaging cross-curricular activities in every subject area, all linked to a main science theme, culminating in impressive and eye-catching, creative belair displays. These new books are designed for primary teachers incorporating a cross-curricular and topic based approach to planning. The books provide planning grids (with NC references) showing links to a variety of subjects, using the science theme as the starting point. One book for each year group/age band. The books are a valuable resource for science co-ordinators aiming to inject creativity and cross-curricular planning into science teaching.The books can be used alongside the QCA science schemes of work or as a stand-alone resource when planning. They contain 6 popular science themes within each book. The example themes include: rocks and soils, teeth and eating, properties of materials, helping plants grow, light and shadows, magnets and springs.The Planning Grids show how activities link to other subject areas, including NC and QCA references where appropriate, making teacher planning much easier.
The books have Practical Starting points in science, including activities for scientific enquiry. Also, activities in literacy and maths are linked to the main science theme. It includes further activities in other subjects such as art, history, geography, design and technology and PSHCE linked to the mains science theme. The title contains a photograph of a display for each core subject and a variety of displays for non-core subjects - all linked to the main science theme. The book also contains a photocopiable activity sheet for science, literacy maths and other subject areas, linked to the main science theme, including helpful assessment ideas.
