Charlie started giggling before we’d even opened the book and his laughter continued all the way through. He loved the character and the temptation of turning each page, which we turned into a ‘shall we, shan’t we’ game. He really engaged with the illustrations and the interactive storyline and thought the ending was super funny. I can see this becoming a firm favourite

It was very funny story for very brave children. My daughter love this book. It's quite different to other book. The character in the book is also funny, we really enjoy this book. (Some children might be little bit scare of it).

I could tell that Amelka (9), two Olivias (9) and Michael (10) were all clearly enjoying this book from the way they were laughing and eagerly turning the pages, despite the grave warnings.  And that's its appeal: that it tempts readers, dares them to do something they are told not to do.  It plays on a child's natural curiosity and sense of fun.  Its one of the few books which is better read to oneself, at least initially because then you can be in on the secret without the rest knowing, at least until its their turn.  The story builds and builds until it reaches its satisfying conclusion. 'Amazing', 'the illustrations are very good', 'you can hear the words in your head as if they are being spoken for real'.  A story based on such a brilliantly simple idea, we can see this becoming a favourite at Upton Meadows.

Wow! My 6 year old LOVES this book - it's become his firm favourite at bedtime.  The illustrations are quirky and funny, and my son adores how some of the pages have no words - but the facial expressions of the monster make him laugh.  The story is all about how a monster is persuading you (the reader) not to turn the pages of the book, and he tries many ways to stop you.  The ending is fantastic - very funny - and my son will repeatedly ask to hear the story in one night.  I would highly recommend this book for a boy or girl aged 4-7.  A different type of book, with great humour!

My daughter  seven year old chelsea absolutely loved reading do not open this book, she has read it several times. Her favourite part is when the blue monster says "you did it a again, are you mad?" Then he told a little lie about the boys hair turning white. She has also read this book to her four yesr old brother who thinks its hillarious.

I read this book to the whole school in assembly to launch world book day and all of the children found it hilarious! They were desperate for me to turn each page and especially loved the part when my parents were ‘phoned’!! A really engaging and fun book, would highly recommend for any bookshelf!

I'm giving Do Not Open This Book a 4 star rating as I'm not sure I would have picked this off the shelf to buy, mainly as it encourages the reader to do the opposite of what they're being asked to do. But my boys found the book very entertaining, there were lots of giggles everytime we turned the page and the blue monster got more mad. All in all a nice short book my boys enjoyed at bed time

Although Georgie loved this book when we read after school, it was (perhaps) a mistake to read it with her at bedtime. She then had a series of bad dreams about monsters - epic parenting fail! I am sure that many children would not respond like this though!
I loved the simplicity of the story and the illustrations added to it greatly.

Ava enjoyed this story, she thought it was funny. It was very repetitive, and I thought it seemed more aimed at younger children. We read it very quickly, and Ava liked the ending. A very silly, but funny book.

The basic concept of this book was a clever one, and it appealed to my son's sense of humour. He particularly enjoyed reading the shouting parts aloud. However, the ending was a bit of an anticlimax after all of the build-up and my son was disappointed by it.

We have had some success with humorous interactive books, so I was looking forward to sharing this book with my daughter. Compared to some of the others, this one falls a bit flat. The entire book has the monster begging and pleading with you not to turn the page. He gets angry, scared, and gives you the silent treatment. Until you find out that he's cursed to be turned into something terrible at the end. Which is a fluffy bunny. It's a bit of a silly twist, but it felt like too much build up and repetition to get to that point. My daughter wasn't overly pleased with this because it was too loud (due to my following the capitalization, punctuation, and italics in how I stressed the words). I think it would have been more enjoyable if the interaction went beyond feeling like turning the page is breaking a rule. I'm planning on passing it onto a library or school because I could see some children enjoying it. It just wasn't for us.

This is a fab interactive book where the reader is encouraged to go against the character's wishes - a concept bound to appeal to any child. The children I shared it with enjoyed reading it and laughed along as the monster character became increasingly frustrated. Just as their interest was beginning to wear thin the monster gave the reader the silent treatment and that brought them straight back into the book. They definitely enjoyed it although it's probably a book that they'll read once and not come back to. I don't think it will hold up to re-reads as they've got books that deal with a similar concept in a more engaging way, such as Open Very Carefully and Press Here.
