Winner of the silver award at the Junior Design Awards 2018 - Best Pre-Schooler Book 2-5 Years "This is a wonderful first gardening book for young children that perfectly captures the magic of growing a beautiful plant from a tiny seed." - Jamie Butterworth, RHS Ambassador A delightful introduction to plant life and nature, as little ones get hands-on to grow their own sunflowers. Includes sunflower seeds, a sunflower height chart, and exciting flaps. RHS I Can Grow a Sunflower is a friendly approach to plant science and a great gift for little gardeners. Sixteen bright board book pages reveal the life cycle of a sunflower, and the excitement of growing a plant from seed. Little children follow the journey of a mystery seed, learning how to plant it, and what it needs to grow. Could it magically become the tallest of all the garden flowers? RHS I Can Grow a Sunflower includes facts about garden creatures, from the helpful ladybird to busy worms, and the visiting bees and butterflies who spread pollen. Children will enjoy read-aloud text, easy-to-follow pictures that show the life cycle of a sunflower - underground, above ground, and through the year - and flaps that show plants growing and creatures hiding. RHS I Can Grow a Sunflower includes a packet of sunflower seeds and a height chart that reinforces how tall a sunflower grows, making this the perfect book for getting young gardeners hands-on for the very first time.

This is a really great book, great quality too. It’s a really fun easy to follow guide on how to grow a sunflower, with nice illustrations throughout. It even comes with some seeds and a height chart to keep track of your sunflower. My little boy really enjoyed this and he has his seeds in pots already. Great for encouraging children with gardening.

This is a great book about growing flowers. It has lots of information about how sunflowers grow, along with providing an introduction to other common flowers and the insects and animals that interact with them. The pages are sturdy board book pages, but the information is not babyish. It's great for older nursery and younger school aged children. The pictures are clear and colorful, and there are some flaps to lift in order to keep interest high. We really liked how the sunflower seeds are portrayed as mystery seeds at the start to keep children interacting. This is a fantastic source of gardening information portrayed in an age-appropriate manner.
The best part comes at the end of the book. There is a pack of sunflower seeds included so that the child can practice planting seeds and investigate how their seeds grow. There is also a height chart to use to measure the growing giant sunflower. This chart would need to be kept inside to keep it from tearing. And be aware that it starts at 30 cm/ 12 in height, so you will have to adjust. In all, this is a fantastic resource that kept my daughter's interest very well. She's looking forward to planting her sunflowers and seeing if they become taller than her.

This book is beautifully illustrated with bright images. We absolutely loved learning about how to paint seeds and how they grow. We used the packet of seeds in the back and planted them up. My 3 year old knew what to do after reading the book. Such a lovely learniv opportunity.

This book has been a brilliant introduction to our growing theme at nursery and will stay in our Continuous provision over the next few weeks for the children to refer back to.
The book is wonderfully illustrated and gives step by step instructions on how to grow our sun flower seeds, a also really liked the little bits of information about the insects and and animals that help the flowers to grow.
We have stuck the height chart up on the wall ready to get measuring when our sun flowers start to grow.

What a gorgeous book about growing flowers, packed full with lots of information, facts and pictures.

Part of the book is lift the flap to keep the interest, and along with a growth chart and seeds it is a perfect way to introduce and involve children in the wonderful world of growing plants.

Highly recommended.

This is a wonderful book for inspiring children to grow things in the garden. There is a lot of information about how seeds and bulbs grow into plants and what happens beneath the soil. There are also useful words introduced like seed, root, shoot, leaves and buds. The book explains what plants need to grow and how creatures interact with the plants. Given the title of the book it would have been good to see more sunflower growing tips included, similar to those on the back of the seed packet. Such as where and when to grow, ideal conditions, watering, protecting from pests and supporting the stem. The bright colours and flaps make the book very interesting for younger children.

This is a really nice, simple and well illustrated book for preschool and reception children - and it comes with some sunflower seeds so that your child can grow their own flowers and track the stages of growth as they are happening.

The lift flaps keep little ones interested and reveal what's happening to the seed under the earth. Bright, bold illustrations also keep the interest of little ones. The plant calendar is also useful, as you child can measure what is happening to their seed ' after so many sleeps' and activity under the earth is illustrated.

It also has a height chart, so your child can interact with measuring the progress of their sunflower. I think it's a lovely idea for a book for young ones - and even my 6 year old is getting into planting the sunflowers!
