This publication is designed for the young gardener, containing individual youth activities and community service projects in order to teach children gardening basics in novel and hands-on ways. The work includes eight easy-to-understand chapters on plant growth and development, soil and water, and ecology and the environment. It goes on to discuss beneficial and harmful insects, plant diseases, landscaping, fruits and nuts, vegetable and herb gardening, and careers in horticulture. Activities include making plantable greeting cards; composing homework and creating habitats for garden creatures. The text is complimented with colour photographs and line drawings. The handbook aims to encourage enjoyment of gardening for both children and parents. It is rooted in the philosophy that appreciating nature and conserving future resources should not only be for adults.
