I read this book to my class of year 3 /4 pupils.  It was the highlight of our day and something that we really loved forward to.  The children found it hilarious, as did I.  It's an easy read about revenge and good conquering evil! Would recommend!

I read this to my 6 year old and she loved it although I thought bits were a little too old for her. Great tale of revenge and friendship. The awful auntie was mean and did some horrible things to her niece Stella but with the help of her ghost friend soot (who died in terrible circumstances) she escapes her auntie and has her revenge. Great book just had to go out n buy another Walliams book

We loved this book and my son enjoyed reading it with me. We love Davids writing and his sense of humour, and this didn't disappoint. We were a little upset that this book is set in the past so no Raj, and liked the add on at the end of the bring back Raj campaign. My son chuckled along to the story and didn't want me to stop reading, a thoroughly enjoyable book.

This book was superbly funny and a super story. I want to know how David Walliams makes his books so funny. I was laughing a lot. I wanted to keep reading as I had to find out where Raj was. I like all his books so far, I've read Ratburger, Gangsta Granny. I am going to read Billionaire Boy next. I think Ratburger is his best book

I read this book with my mummy - we took turns to read chapters.  We really like David Walliams books and I think this one is the best.  Aunt Alberta is really scary and I wouldn't want her to be my auntie.  But Stella finds a friend Soot so she was okay.    Soot was my favourite character and I am glad he helped Stella.  I think all of my friends at junior school would like this book even my big brother would, but he thinks Raj is the best so he might be sad that he isn't in this book.

I hadn't wanted to read David Walliams books as I didn't like the look of the cover. My mum let me read a sample on her kindle and then I was hooked and borrowed a hardback copy from my friend at school. It was exciting when the giant snowman fell on Aunt Alberta instead of Stella. It was scary when Stella was stretched and locked up in the cellar and when they were on the roof. My favourite bit was when the owl and his birdie friends grabbed Aunt Alberta threw her away in the forest.  I have since also read Gangsta Granny and Mr Stink but Awful Auntie is my favourite so far.

So far my favourite David Walliams book, I like how he has broken his own mould here and not included his repeating characters...although Raj's petition at the end of the book was a brilliant addition.

It took me a little while to get into the story, there are a lot of filler pages at the beginning containing lists, but once you get past that the plot starts to unfold and it is a very interesting one at that. It is a very dark story, lots of gruesome murders, and quite a few plot twists, to me they were pretty obvious but to see my daughter suddenly realise what was going one and be totally amazed makes this book worthy of 5 stars.

Brilliant illustrations add to the story too.

I really enjoyed Awful Auntie, it is quite a funny book about a girl called Stella Saxby (an adventurous young lady, who is determined to save the day) and her Aunt( a mean women with no sense of style) Alberta. They both live in Saxby hall, with Stella's parents. Until, Lord and Lady Saxby pass away in a car crash. Alberta use's this unfortunate incident to her advantage, she carries out a search to find the deeds to Saxby hall, so that Stella can sign them over to her and Alberta can create something extraordinary for her pet owl. Meanwhile, stella is catching up with a ghost of a chimney sweep that wants to help her find out the truth about her parents death, and protect the Saxby hall deeds. Join Stella and her Awful Auntie in this wonderful book. Can she crack the case?

This is a really good book, it reminded me of Matilda in some ways , the Aunt was especially like Miss Trunchball.
My daughter really enjoyed this and would quite often beg for more than one chapter to be read to her at night.

Scarlett read this book and finished it a few days before we went to watch the live show as a family. I wasn't sure that she would engage in the show as she already knew what happened from the book, but it was the complete opposite! Scarlett was jumping up from her chair keen to tell us what was coming up in the show!
Scarlett's favourite part of the book is where Stella and Soot played all the tricks on the aunty, they put glass under the toilet seat, put soot in her soap and lots of other tricks in an attempt to evict her from Saxby Hall.
The start of the book does, like Bad Dad involve some mild trauma when Stella discovers her parents have indeed been poisoned by awful aunty. I think the book, although it does touch on the loss of the parents it doesn't focus on it to much to cause readers distress, but it does highlight that some children have a tough start in life and have to live with the loss of a parent / parents.
It's lovely when Stella meets Soot, a friendly ghost! They get up to all sorts of mischief and the end of the book is gripping as the two friends try to reclaim Saxby Hall!
A brilliant book and a great show!

I liked the book because it was funny, although in places it was also sad. I liked the storyline, my favourite characters were Stella and Wagner (I won't spoil any storyline though!!)
I liked how Stella met a friendly ghost called Soot who helped her get out of some very tricky situations!!
There was lots of surprises in the book, and towards the end I didn't want to stop reading, I had to find out what was going to happen next.
The book was illustrated brilliantly my favourite was when Aunt Alberta looks like an abominable snowman, it made me laugh!
Aunt Alberta really isn't very nice I wouldn't want an auntie like her! I'd like an owl like Wagner though, I'd treat him much nicer than she does.
I think the ending of the book was lovely, I'm glad everything works out in the end.

I would recommend the book to anyone, even smaller children who can have it read to them by an adult although some parts might be a little too sad. It is s long story, mine is hardback and its heavy and large to hold. I really want to read another Walliams book i'd like to read demon dentist next.

My 9 year old loved this book - I thought it was a bit too dark and scary with the poor girl being orphaned and facing numerous death threats, but it's not aimed at me!
My daughter said it was funny and a good read. The characters were interesting and she liked Soot.

What I liked about this book was for starters its from David Williams but the other reason is that I can kind of relate to Stella ( the main character) not that my aunties are awful that sometimes I go on weird adventures too. Stella she is quite an adventurous character (a bit like me) and even when she is really sad she thinks on the positive side. Soot is a ghost that cleans the chimney and is Stella's best friend. This book reached all of my expectations! There are pictures in the book.

I think at some points in this story I was a bit scared. I loved the part where awful auntie dressed up as a detective and Stella was fooled. I was a bit nervous when awful auntie said she would stretch her owl so he could be in her museum. I would recommend this book to animal lovers.

We both, my nine year old and I, a mum on the wrong side of twenty-five, really enjoyed this book. Walliams' books are rare in that they appeal to both young and old. Awful Auntie is brilliantly entertaining and laugh out loud funny. The book contains numerous amusing scenarios that really appealed to my little boy's sense of humour. I'm sure he'll be stealing a few of the pranks mentioned too (thanks for that, David!). Walliams never fails to disappoint. We can't wait for the next one. Oh, and we signed the online petition protesting about Raj's exclusion. #BringBackRaj. <---- that was a brilliant addition at the end that kept the fun going as my little one discovered more fun on David's website.

I would hate to have that awful auntie as an auntie.  I can't believe the lengths the auntie went to to try and get her own way.  I enjoyed this book very much and it kept me laughing throughout as well as shaking.  I think that authors should make more great books like this, my friends would love it.

this has been our go-to book at bedtime for the last few weeks, there's a lot to read through! Stella Saxby is orphaned in a tragic accident, and is left in the care of Aunt Alberta, the awful aunty. The book is about Alberta's attempts to get Stella to sign over the deeds of Saxby hall, and the dastardly steps she'll take to get her way. Its good fun, a good introduction to thriller type books!

This was a fast paced story which to me was almost like an old fashioned fairy tale set in modern times.    The awful auntie was indeed awful and you could practically smell her pong coming from the pages! Little Stella, the poor orphaned child, was courageous and kind.   Definitely a story of good overcoming bad and the illustrations throughout the book add even more humour. My son loved looking at the pictures of the owl, especially when he smashes through the door.

Awful aunt by David Williams Review by sophie age 11 The blurb From number one bestselling author David Walliams comes another heartfelt but hilarious hoot of an adventure Stella Saxby is the sole heir to Saxby Hall. But awful Aunt Alberta and her giant owl will stop at nothing to get it from her. Luckily Stella has a secret – and slightly spooky – weapon up her sleeve… What sophie says To start of it wasn't one of the best David Walliams books I've ever read but not the worse. My favourite part is where the young girl meets the ghost in the cellar. Also I found the letter of complaint from Raj funny and there is even an online potition to sign to bring him back on the next book. Near the end there is a part where she is tricked by her Aunt which I found very clever. The illustrations were amazing once again and I enjoyed looking at them. I lot of people that I know like this book but weren't amazed by it. I would recommend this book to 11yrs and down. Overall I would give this book a three out of five but I will most definitely be reading this again. Sophie About the Author Since 2008 David Walliams has taken the children’s literary world by storm. His most recent book DEMON DENTIST, immediately went to no.1 in the children’s chart and sold over half a million copies in less than a year, while the PBs of his previous titles dominate the UK charts. Today, David is the fastest-growing children’s author in the UK. His books have been translated into 40+ languages and sold over 4 million copies in the UK alone. David’s books have achieved unprecedented critical acclaim - and both RATBURGER and DEMON DENTIST won the National Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year. A great review Sophie thank you for doing for me x Aj

Awful Auntie is a scary book.  I didn't enjoy it at all and it gave me nightmares.  I know that lots of other children liked it but for me, it was too scary and I didn't like the idea that Awful Auntie had killed the little girl's mum and dad. I did read it to the end to make sure that everything ended ok and it did.  I read lots of different kinds of books and this has been the only book so far that has really upset me.
