The book was really good my favourite part was when they were going into the mirror because it was very exciting my second favourite part was when they was looking through the mirror and they saw a girl and boy the only bad thing about it is that you can't put it down. Definitely recommend buying. I rate Five stars

This reminded me so much of those fantastic adventure stories I read as a child under the covers, but bang up to date in style and tone!  "A Chase in Time" is a story centred around a brother and sister who have gone to stay with their aunt for two weeks and are looking for something to do.  They find more adventure than they dreamed of when Alex discovers a magic mirror which transports them back to the same house but around a hundred years ago.  I was hooked from the first page, with the description of the mysterious mirror, and immediately wanted to visit the house that our hero and heroine were staying at (loved the period details).  The action never lets up, and I can imagine that this is going to grab the most reluctant of readers and keep them entertained to the end.  The chapters are a perfect length and I loved the illustrations throughout by Brett Helquist - confident year 3's would manage this but it would also entertain any child in Junior School.  I was delighted to see that this is the first in a new time-travel series - I can't wait to recommend this to some of my readers at school - they will love it!

A fabulous time travelling adventure story. Alex and Ruby stay with their Aunt Joanne over the holidays. They are sad she is selling her wonderful home as she can no longer afford to keep it. The house is also home to a fabulous mirror. One day Alex notices that his reflection is in fact not his at all but another boy. He grabs his sister and together through the mirror are transported back to 1912. Along with their distant relatives, they have a relic to find and rescue. We really enjoyed his book. It was very easy to read and suited both my 7 and 9 year old. They loved hearing all about the historic differences too. A super read.

ay with their Aunt Joanna in the country in her big rambling home which offers a stark contrast to the ugly house that they live in. Unfortunately this will be their last summer of escape, as their Aunt has been forced to sell her home as she can no longer manage the upkeep. Alex loves the house and just adores all of the remarkable objects in the house that have been collected over the years. But he is drawn to one object in particular, an old gilt-edged mirror because when he was 7 years old he is convinced he saw another boy in the mirror instead of his reflection. And one day when he least expects it he accidentally falls through the mirror with his sister and they end up in the same house but in a very different period of time. Soon they find themselves caught up in an adventure filled with arson, theft and erratic car chases as they race to find a precious family jewel. Can they solve the mystery and find a way to return home?

I completely devoured this book in one sitting, time literally flew by as I got totally caught up in this intriguing adventure. It really is like stepping into the past with it’s considered attention to period detail, told with real enthusiasm and insight. Sally has assembled a perfectly marvellous cast of characters who will delight and entertain readers. Alex and Ruby think they’re way ahead of the game compared to their distant relatives from the past Henry and Dora but they soon find they are a worthy match of pluckiness and determination as they work together to track down the thief. The adults are wonderfully eccentric, so full of life and adventure not realising that they are on the brink of the great war that will change their lives forever.  I love how she highlights the difference between life now and back in the Edwardian era, in particular how Ruby is horrified at the constraints Dora’s clothes place on her compared to the comfortable jeans and trainers she wears. Brett’s illustrations complement this story perfectly creating a truly beautiful and engaging read. Fast, frenetic and completely fun this book is a must have read for any confident child who has moved on from first chapter books and is looking to bridge the gap to middle grade reads.

I LOOOOVED this book! I couldn't put it down and devoured it in about an hour, it had me hooked from the very start and I just didn't want to stop reading.

I felt like it had a bit of an Enid Blyton vibe, it very much reminded me of that kind of style of mystery/ adventure story. I loved how the story progressed from the present day to 1912. I think the process of getting to the past was brilliant and very inventive.

I thought the story was gripping, had great description- I loved all the period mentions. I found the book exciting and would say that fans of Enid Blyton, Julia Edwards and Eloise Williams are those most likely to enjoy this great story.

Love this book p, the adventure is great, imagine falling through a mirror and  finding yourself in another time. Love the time travel and it really does make you think how history is all around us. Like the main characters who are brother and sister. I would recommend this book to my friends. I would like more books from this to be a series of adventures.

Thanks to Nosy Crow for providing an advance copy for review. A modern take on a traditional Enid Blyton style mystery, A Chase in Time is a fun time travel adventure with larger than life characters and great period detail. When Alex and Ruby fall through their aunt’s mirror they are transported back to 1912 where they need to solve a mystery in order to get home. Some of the language could be challenging for younger readers but this is a perfect book to read to children as a bedtime story or for older/more confident readers to read alone. A great start to a new series - recommended for 7+.

This book is about Alex and Ruby (his sister) who fall through a mirror. The world behind the mirror is in the past. They are trying to find out how to get back when a special golden cup is stolen. They realise in most movies/books when people go back in time, there is a problem they have to solve. They decide to try and solve this mystery to get back home. Can they solve the mystery.... I really enjoyed this book, and I read it from cover to cover in one go!

A Chase in Time is a simple but fun story. Where two children are sent back through time through a magic mirror and have an adventure with some of their ancestors.

I liked reading this story and it was a simple and easy read. Children age 7 and above will enjoy this story, which was a bit young for me.
