My name is Adam Butters. I live on planet Earth, I like eating spaghetti hoops and I've decided I'm going to be a SUPERHERO. Everyone loves superheroes, they solve problems and make people happy, and that's good because my mum needs cheering up. Also, I've found out that before I was adopted my real mum called me ACE. So now I've just got to prove to the world that's what I am. One mission at a time...Hilarious, heart-warming and heart-breaking in equal measure, this is a story about the power in all of us to be extraordinary.

It’s not very often I read a book and can’t review it straight away, but this is one of those rare occasions where a book touches me so deeply, I need to walk away, cry, think, and return.

Meet Adam Butters. He loves spaghetti hoops, comics, his bobble hat and his family. But there’s a piece of Adam missing. He has always known he’s adopted, but he knows nothing of his real mother.
When his Year 6 teacher sets a class project to research their family tree, Adam decides that he knows everything about his adopted family and it’s time to find his missing piece, his real mother. How? By being super! Then everyone will be happy.

From laugh out loud funny one page to tearily touching the next, Lara Williamson takes the reader on Adam’s heart wrenching journey to discover who he is and where he belongs. Family, friendship and love flow from the page into your heart, as we discover that there is a superhero inside all of us.

For once, I won’t tell you it’s great for fans of… Just read it.

Adam is a normal eleven year-old boy. He likes spaghetti hoops and always wear a bobble hat. He’s also adopted but he never thought about his real parents; he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else on the planet than with the parents he already has. But when his teacher comes up with the idea of a family tree project everything changes.

This great story is sometimes happy, sometimes funny and some parts nearly made me cry. Lara Williamson has done a brilliant job with this book; the characters seemed to come to life even though I knew they were fictional. My favourite part was when Adam and his friend had to travel down the street in a wheelie bin!

This is definitely a must read for 9-12 year olds. I’m going to tell Alex, one of my brothers, that he should read this book next. I’ve also read A Boy Called Hope by Lara Williamson and I would recommend that one too.

A beautiful, sensitive and utterly life-affirming story... Williamson uses her trademark blend of warmth, humour and hope as she weaves an entertaining but touchingly clever story about one boy's journey of emotional and personal discovery. Prepare to laugh and cry in equal measure.

The main character in this story is Adam Butters and he loves spaghetti hoops!!! Adam has always known that he was adopted but knows nothing of his birth mum. A school project to research the family tree brings this to the forefront of his mind and he sets off on a super hero mission to find her with the help of his friends. A truly touching story that was enjoyed by mum as well as Seb!

Just call me spaghetti hoop boy by Lara Williamson

This book is about a boy called Adam who is an adopted child who decided to be a superhero after finding his real name is  ACE. He goes through a lot of research and hassle to find his birth mother.

The main character in the story is Ace. He lives with his adopted family who include Mum, Dad and sisters Minnie and Velvet. Oh, not to forget Velvet's imaginary dog, Sausage roll. His favourite family member has to be Dad, who got Adam into superheroes. Their favourites are the Zorbitans. In school, his best friend is Tiny Eric, who is Polish. His teacher is called Mrs Chatterjee.

This book has been written by Lara Williamson who has been nominated by the Blue Peter book awards for 'The boy who sailed the Ocean in a Armchair'. My favourite part is when ACE and Captain Encryptor use the trusty 'Binmobile' to reach the hospital. I enjoyed this book because it was a nice break from my usual genre. This book was very believable and some parts realistic. You could feel the emotions in some parts. I even cried! A few years ago I thought her last book 'The boy who sailed the Ocean in an Armchair' wasn't for me but now my views have changed.

My son took this into school as his 'reading book' he said it was a great book and felt for Adam but loved how he was a superhero, it made him ask me questions about where he was from and if I was his real mum so I know this book touched him in some way. He enjoyed it and was lovely to know that he got something from the book! Adam is a hero who eats spaghetti hoops he's awesome!

Pleasantly surprised by this book. A shortlist for the Leeds Book Awards 2018, it addresses some challenging issues faced by a vulnerable child. We go on a journey with the main character and have access to his inner most thoughts as he tries to deal with his issues.
The writer managed to bring a tear to my eye in the way the main character’s relationship is portrayed with his adopted mum.
