Becket Rumsey is all at sea. His dad has run away with him and his brother Billy in the middle of the night. And they've left everything behind, including their almost-mum Pearl. Becket has no idea what's going on - it's a mystery. So with the help of Billy and a snail called Brian, Becket sets out on a journey of discovery. It's not plain sailing but then what journeys ever are?

This book is about 2 brothers called Becket and Billy. They go on a journey to find out why their dad takes them and moves house in the middle of the night. My favourite characters are Billy and his Pet snail Brian. I really liked this book, it is both really sad and very funny. The descriptions of things in the book are really funny and its narrated brilliantly. The book deals with death and loss but in a really positive way. I would recommend this to others

I liked the way Lara (& Becket), described things like: Billy was as sad as a cat with tail chopped off,  (although the cat wouldn't really be sad because it would be dying)!    I didn't like the sad bit when Becket's dad reviled everything to him.    My favourite character was Billy because he was so hilarious throughout the whole story, even if he didn't know what was happening.    Over all the story was brilliant ( even if was sad at bits!).    I'd recommend this story for 8-10 year-olds.

I think this book is a good read because it is emotional and exciting at the same time. The characters are all different, Dad is depressed, Becket and his brother are confused about many things and mum isn't around anymore. It made me feel sad how his mum died and excited in other places. I would recommend it to a friend.

This book was intriguing from the title, and a book that I thought my son would enjoy. The story is a tale of a little family and their adventures, or is this the story of two boys trying to make sense of an adult world. There is both sadness and humor mixed in equal parts throughout the book. There are twits and turns and a mixture of magic and realism that give this book something a bit different to it. You will have to read to find out if Becket and Billy ever find out why their dad took them away from the place they called home, and why they didn't get a chance to say goodbye.
