Shabba me whiskers! It's one of those Mr Gum books by Andy Stanton. They're only the craziest, funnest most amazing books for children in the world.

Mr Gum is back in this second hilarious book and he's as nasty as ever! In fact, he's absolutely grimsters. But this book's not just about him. Meet a gingerbread man named Alan Taylor who has electric muscles! Plus, all our favourite characters are also back: the little girl called Polly, the evil butcher called Billy William The Third, and the very wise man, Friday O'Leary. And, who could forget loveable Jake the dog, or the angry fairy who lives in Mr Gum's bathtub and whacks him on the head with a frying-pan?

Perfect for fans of Roald Dahl and David Walliams.

Today he is best-known for the hilarious and much-loved Mr Gum books, which are published in 34 countries worldwide in over 30 languages. The series has won numerous awards, including the inaugural Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Red House Children's Book Award and two Blue Peter Book Awards.

This was such a funny book, lots to keep the adult reader amused as well as the children (although they didn't understand all the jokes themselves).  Great fun with the familiar characters of the Mr Gum series.

Another brilliant book from the Mr Gum series.  This book is about a gingerbread man with electric muscles who is extremely rich.....! And many other delightful and eccentric characters that my son has grown to love.  It contains absurd and surreal humour, with an actually lovely underlying theme that friendship can not be bought with money (don't worry, this theme is not presented in any serious-minded high-brow manner).  What is great about this series is the huge belly laughs that my son has when hearing these stories. He truly looks forward to hearing these stories and they have been a fantastic way to transition him from picture books to chapter books.

Definitely recommend this series!

We loved the second book in the Mr Gum series. The funniest thing in this book is that the gingerbread man is called Alan Taylor. This book is very surreal and is great for kids like us who have a daft sense of humour. Our favourite characters were Polly and Jake the Dog

I love this book. The story was really fun and the best character was by far the ginger bread man. This book made me laugh. I would definitely read this again.

My son loves the Mr Gum series. He finds them absolutely hilarious. We have been reading them at bedtime. His favourite saying is 'The truth is a lemon meringue.' He thought Monsieur Bellybutton, associate of Mr Gum and Billy was excellent. Too stinky for words. It has a bizarre humour which just strikes the right note. It is also a lovely story about friendship. Alan Taylor, the gingerbread man with electric muscles, finds out friendship can not be bought. Overall, a great book.
