A ghost story set in a historic house called Weston located near Warrenton, Virginia. An abused child, Nicholas, finds himself in a temporary home, Weston, as a foster child. In the process of learning to trust his guardian, he discovers that he has psychic powers which he shares with a classmate, Molly. Together, with the help of a Weston ghost and Nicholas's spirit friend, they outwit a psychotic beagler and save Weston from burning. Nicholas must still face another move into a more permanent foster home, but all ends well in a surprising turn of events at the conclusion of the book.
