The Wizard of Oz meets Monsters Inc in this MONSTROUSLY funny stand-alone story from bestselling author phenomenon, Steve Cole.

I'm Bob, a human boy stuck in a land of MONSTERS. I'm trying to get out with the help of three - count them, three - incredible creatures.

There's Verity, who looks like a giant hamster. Alfie, who's about as scary as a bag of crisps. And Zola, a gorgon who can't turn people to stone (though she can manage cardboard at a push).

We're on a crazy, death-defying quest to escape with our lives. And all around us, the cry goes up: STOP THOSE MONSTERS!!!

I read this to my son (aged 8) but when I finished reading each night he carried on reading more by himself as he was so keen to find out what happened next. The story is funny, quirky and like nothing he has read before. At first I thought there was a lot that was 'gimmicky' about the book (the mixing up of font types, words in bold etc) but actually it did make it more easier and lots of fun to read out loud. I asked my son what he thought of this book, and his response was - 'Epic!!!!!'.

This has been a bedtime book for my 9 year old and he and I have laughed a lot reading this.  I have heard Steve Cole talk during a school visit and he had the children enthralled and in fits of giggles from the start - and so it was with this book.  We've been through his Astrosaurs books (aimed at younger readers - first chapter books I would say) and also Cows in Action.  I personally preferred this to either of those.  Poor Bob(obob) lands in Terra Monstra and meets a delightful bunch of weirdos; Verity, a giant hamster-like creature, Alfie, a huge, non-scary reptile and the failed Gorgon, Zola (geddit?)

The illustrations by Jim Field are beautiful - it was the stunning cover that drew me to it to begin with - and I was so taken by his work that I investigated his website and now own one of his prints!

This book will probably appeal most to those with a gross sense of humour and is particularly good for reluctant readers and yucky boys.  In fact, my rather yucky nine year old (who loves comics and graphic novels, but is not the keenest of readers when it comes to 'proper' chapter books) read ahead rather than wait a night for the next chapter, which is unheard of!  If he recommends a book, I know there is something good to be said for it.  And there is a great deal of good to be said about this one.

I love monsters so was very happy to win this book from Toppsta.  In this monster book some monsters and people get a human to his world, by finding a magic crystal, with dangers on the way.  There are lots of pictures in the book which make it more exciting.  I read the book quite quickly because I loved it so much.

This book kept me on my toes for the whole afternoon because it it was hilarious in a whole new way. The way it unfolded and linked to "Magic Ink" was stunning and the charactets were unique in their own way, like Verity the karate hamster. The way the plot was built was unexpected and tense and original like fantasy had been reinvented. The ideal read for any kids.

It's a funny book with a whole load of monsters in it. The boy, Bob-ob-ob, has got caught in a hurricane and his house has sunk in to the monster land called Terra Monstra, where the sky is made of mud and the sun is a light bulb. There are monsters like the gorgon called zola and the big monster hamster called verity whose eyes flash green when she's brave. A good, funny story of how Bob gets home.

What a fantastic book, I read this to my son but he is very young so I read it myself. It's full of adventure, fun & laughter! I love the writing in the book & the fantastic pictures! I would definitely recommend this book to any child over 7/8 - love the ending! Will definitely be buying other books by Steve Cole
