Poppy Pym has grown up in the circus, taming lions before lunch and
learning acrobatics in the afternoon. But when she turns eleven,
her circus family decides she needs a more traditional education,
and she is sent to boarding school. At first Poppy doesn't fit
in at St Smithen's, a school that is very different from the circus.
Then, an ancient Egyptian ruby arrives at school and dangerous
accidents start occurring. Suddenly it's up to Poppy to save
her new school and solve the mystery of the Pharaoh's curse!

I found it quite easy reading and I think that younger readers could read it too. I wouldn't mind reading the other Poppy Pym books that are out there.

A great mystery story that leads you to believe a different story due to all the twists in it.

My 8 yr old found this extremely enjoyable. The story was mysterious and about a girl who works at a circus but then had to attend a boarding school. Whilst at school she made a friend and together they fell upon a crime and tried to solve it. Nice size book she will definitely read it again.

A lovely book, the main character Poppy leaves her extremely extraordinary circus family to mix and learn with boys and girls in a boarding school. She soon makes friends and shows off her skills. Then a mystery happens when an Egyptian exhibition is held at her school and the pharaohs curse is unleashed. This book kept my little girl guessing every night, with some cliffhanger chapter endings I would definitely recommend this book.

This book is action packed and full of fun. Poppy is starting school in this book. There is so much going on and has the excitement of the Egyptian theme running through. I would highly recommend this book.

My 9 year old really enjoyed this. She worked so hard to complete the book, she loved the intrigue and suspense. She was so engrossed in the story line that she  felt like she had solved the crime herself. She has asked me to get the others in the series.

This book was very well written because it had lots of important details which made the story come to life.  This story really touched my heart because the little baby called Poppy went to the circus with her parents but they left her there on purpose!  The people in the circus adopted her and looked after her.  Poppy grows up and wants to stay in the circus but an important headmaster says she must go to school.  The story is about Poppy's time at boarding school and how she solves a mystery there.  I would love to read more books about Poppy Pym.  This book was really interesting and I felt close to the character of Poppy.
