Mildred Hubble, positively the Worst Witch at Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches is back in another very funny adventure. In The Worst Witch and the Wishing Star , Mildred makes a wish on a shooting star - and to her great surprise it comes true! But it also spells trouble. Mildred's wish-come-true is a small dog but she has to keep him a secret from her friends, and especially the formidable Miss Hardbroom. It's a disaster waiting to happen...and it does...! The Worst Witch and the Wishing Star launches a stunning new cover look and an appealing squarer format across the whole of the Worst Witch series which includes The Worst Witch; The Worst Witch Strikes Again; A Bad Spell for the Worst Witch; The Worst Witch all at Sea; The Worst Witch Saves the Day and The Worst Witch to the Rescue. Jill Murphy was born in London in 1949. From a very early age she was drawing and writing stories, and was already putting books together (literally, with a stapler) by the time she was six. She went on to study at Chelsea, Croydon and Camberwell Schools of Art. Jill worked in a children's home for four years and as a nanny for a year, before becoming a freelance writer and illustrator. The Worst Witch stories, of which this is the seventh, are some of Puffin's most successful titles.

This is my favourite of all the Worst Witch books. Mildred starts term well and has the job of lighting the lanterns. On her first day, she sees a wishing star and makes a wish for a dog. Her wish comes true. Mildred names her dog Star and hides him. I like this book because Mildred does not get into trouble all the time like usual and her teachers are nice to her too. I really like Star the doggy too. He's my favourite character.

Although I'm a boy, I love the worst witch books because funny things always happen to Mildrid even though it's not her fault.  I really loved this book because it is a bit different to the others because Mildrid has a dog.  I hope they write more stories with the dog in.

This is a fantasy and magic novel.  The main character, Mildred, is a trainee witch who always seems to get into trouble whilst attending the witch academy.  She sees a shooting star and to her surprise, and so typical for Mildred, the dream comes true.  Unfortunately trouble comes with it.  However, Mildred, together with her loyal friend, Maud, do all they can to stay out of trouble whilst her enemies would Mildred to get expelled from the academy.

It is funny and very well written.  The characters are fabulous.  This is the seventh book in the series and I could not put any of them down.
