Caillou asks Daddy for his ball, but Daddy is busy. While Caillou waits, he plays with a stuffed animal. But the stuffed toy doesn't listen to him, so Caillou speaks very loudly. Daddy advises Caillou to be more gentle with his toy. Caillou learns that asking politely can result in a more positive response. Politeness is a social convention. It is also a way to smooth human interactions. Even the smallest children can learn to express their needs politely.
