Young Robin lives alone with his widowed father, in a small village on the edges of Sherwood Forest in twelfth century England, during the reign of Henry II. It is a hard life for the farming villagers who rely on each other to survive. One day Robin returns home to find his father dead with a knife in his back. Rumours suggest the killer is one of a band of outlaws and thieves living deep in the forest. Leaving his friends and safety behind, Robin decides to seek the truth about his father's death. But rather than finding the outlaws, the outlaws find him, and Robin has a close brush with death. Luckily, he is saved by Scarlock, a mysterious outlaw living alone in Sherwood. Through him Robin begins to learn forest law, how to survive and how to use a longbow. Eventually Robin gets a lead in finding his father's killer but it is much closer to home than he expects ...
