The Twelve Quests, BOOK 6, The Enchanted Harp by Ana Fischel. It was 1849 and times were as bad as rotting fish and certainly no bed of roses for ten year old Leadington twins, Albert and Florrie as an evil magic stalked their every move whilst they tried to complete the twelve diabolical quests Madame Divitan had set them. Not only had they had narrowly avoided being murdered by trolls, stone statue assassins and a dragon (to mention just a few), they had also just witnessed their guardians Ebenezer Smythe and Arthur Canarthy being publicly executed by the hangman's noose, so you could say the children had had better days. However, if they are ever to be reunited with their parents they must press on and find 'the enchanted harp' but who can they turn to in such turbulent and tricky times? The valley itself appeared to be completely deserted with absolutely no indication of life, however, even though they could see nobody else around, both Albert and Florrie got the distinct feeling that they were being watched. The trees seemed to be leaning towards them like outstretched hands, their spindly branches appearing more like skeletal fingers plucking at the air.
Even the rocks began to resemble tombstones as dusk dropped down like a widow's veil. Indeed, it seemed as if the wind had stopped breathing a breeze, like everything had died. Intrigued? You should be if you like quirky fantasy adventure books full of danger, dark magic and mystical folklore! The first 6 in this series of The Twelve Quests (for 7 -- 12 year olds) are now available to buy online via most main bookstores and are published by Arts Council funded YouWriteOn.
