"But Captain, what's this on our plates?
We don't want this for tea!
Sausages aren't pirate food.
You don't eat those at sea!" Captain Cutlass's crew don't want to eat their tea so he has to convince them that sausages, carrots, peas and mash will help make them rough tough, noisy pirates. With delightful rhyming text and humorous illustrations, Teatime for Pirates! will help make sure every little pirate eats their tea! Other titles in the Skullabones Island series from Ladybird Books: Yo-ho-ho (A Ladybird noisy book), A Week of Pirate Tales, All Aboard the Pirate Ship (A Ladybird Lift-the-Flap book), Pirate Playtime (A Ladybird sticker activity book), Pirate Time (A Ladybird clock book), How to be a Skullabones Pirate (A Ladybird sticker activity book), Five Minutes to Bed and Pirate Post

A fun rhyming story that any pirate fan would enjoy. A gentle reminder to kids to eat their dinner and that each bit of food is good for them, be it for fighting sharks or climbing the mast!

This is a very fun, rhyming book with great illustrations. Captain is trying to get the children to eat peas and mash and more. But they think it’s not pirate food, so the captain has to convince them. By telling them it will make them big or strong or brave. It’s a fun story which my little boy enjoyed.

We read this because we loved Bedtime for Pirates. This book has the same fabulous rhyming text which makes it really fun to read. The story encourages children eating dinners to make you big and strong and be able to do everything pirates do in a day, which is a great message. However the text was a bit more repetative and the use of 'Pirate Sauce' to eat dinners they don't like, whilst a valid parenting trick, isn't something I really wanted encouraging in a book. We definitely prefer the first book.

I am always looking for a new pirate book for Leo as he loves pirates and we have most of the books!
This is a good rhyming book that has a fun idea as the storyline. It is good for fussy eaters although it does suggest that you need ketchup on every meal which isn't, perhaps, ideal!
We like the repetition that the children can join in with and the illustrations.

My 7 year old son read this book to me, he found the storyline very interesting and I found this encouraged his reading. He said he liked reading about all the food and made him want to eat it. I thought this was a very good book however I wasn't sure that getting them to put ketchup on the food to eat it gave the right message to children. However it was a fun pirate story with colourful illustrations.

As a parent of a fussy eater (who also loves being a pirate) I started off loving this book because it encourages children to eat their veggies if they want to be a proper pirate. But at the end, the only way the children will eat the food is with tomato ketchup! It's fun enough but it's not quite the message I'm trying to convey to my already fussy eater.
