A moving story about unity and inspiration in the face of destruction, by the 2003-2005 Children's Laureate.

Tomas hates school, hates books and hates stories. Forced to visit the library, he stops to listen to magical tales that the Unicorn Lady spins. These tales draw him in and are about to change the course of his life for ever... Set against the backdrop of war-torn Europe, I Believe in Unicorns explores the power of stories to transform lives. Produced in association with the Unicorn Theatre, the first purpose-built professional theatre for children in the UK, located on London's South Bank.

i read this book with my class and i loved this book because it had a lot of good and bad moments and was easy to read. The main character Thomas hates school and the library but he is in the middle of a remote area by a forest and in the forest is a lake he loves to swim in. I love the pictures as they are very beautiful i would recommend this to 7 12 year olds as younger children would not understand it.

This is a beautiful book - in story, illustrations and design. We were introduced to this book having seen the one woman play (fantastic and highly recommended too) and we loved reading it.
It starts as a simple story of a village, and a boy who loves the mountains but not going to school or reading, then, as Tomas is drawn into the library and the Unicorn Lady's tales, we are drawn into the heartbreak of war.
The author handles these very adult themes (war, violence, book burning) masterfully as usual and leads us to an emotional and uplifting ending, with hope for the future.
I was touched and delighted how entranced my boys were with this story.

This was our bedtime story for a few nights. Hard to stop reading. As always from Michael morpurgo a beautiful well written story.  He manages to tackle difficult story lines, in this case war, in a gentle but poignant way.  Prompted lots of discussion. And like the unicorn lady we love books!

I loved this because Thomas dad helped the book lady and carried all the books so they would not set on fire and let the town take all the books.

Was this a good book? Yes it was amazing!
I think this book is enchanting as I could hardly tear myself away. My class thinks that I Believe in Unicorns is an amazing book and it holds some very adult like events such as war violence very well. This book is about the magic of stories. I picked this book and I didn’t want to put it down. When I read this book at school it made me want to read more and more. The book made me ponder about many things, such as, what happened next?  I like this book because Tomas, who is eight years old, doesn’t like books or school.

Michael Morpurgo, who wrote I believe in unicorns, usually writes about animals and war as I have read a few of his stories like the fox and the ghost king. He has had a magnificent taste of creativity for this wonderful story of war and Noah’s Ark

I believe in unicorns has beautiful illustrations by Illustrator, Gary Blythe.

If you have never read a Michael Morpurgo book I recommend this book for you as it will take you on a heart-touching roller coaster with Tomas.[a boy who loves the hills but hates books and school].

I think the ideal age for this book is 7-12 but can be enjoyed by any age. I absolutely loved this book and want to share it with my family.

What a good book young Thomas is about to discover what happened when war  came to his home town. This book was a heart touching story and really made me feel like I was there  Like most of Michael's books it is about war. When we read it as a class we discovered that the loss of the belived mythical creatures the unicorn was due to the ignironsinse of people as the unicorns cried out to us and we didn't listen. Great gob Michael morpurgo!
