Double Felix
Author: Sally Harris Illustrator: Maria Serrano
I entered the giveaway hoping that, if lucky to win, J would read it and it would help him understand some of his controlling issues. Annoyingly he's showing no interest in reading it atm. But I think it's a good story and would be useful to other kids with issues as well as 'regular' kids who would gain some understanding and empathy.

Hamish and the Baby BOOM!
Author: Danny Wallace Illustrator: Jamie Littler
This was tried by a nine year old boy, so right at the bottom end of the age recommendation. He's struggled to get in to it, because it's a bit hard for him and he's finding the chapters longer than he's used to and is not progressing very quickly.
It's probably just a bit too hard for him and not the fault of the book, but the story hasn't grabbed his attention to make him plough through a hard book. We only got two chapters in before it was abandoned. He does like the sparkly cover though!

I'd keep this for someone a bit older.
I've given three stars because I can't really give it a rating so went down the middle. Sorry.

Room on the Broom
Author: Julia Donaldson Illustrator: Axel Scheffler
As a parent it's really easy to read and doesn't take too long, so great for bed time. The children love the story of the different animals coming together and the repetition is fun for them to join in.
