The Little Thieves series is a YA fantasy retelling of Goose Girl by Margaret Owen. It's perfect for readers aged 13+ who love fantasy, mythology, humour and romance.
While most Goose Girl retellings focus on the princess whose identity has been stolen, this series focuses on the thief, Vanja Schmidt, the adopted daughter of Death and Fortune. In an effort to gain enough riches to escape her abusive parents, Vaja has no choice but to mascherade as Princess Gisele and steal all the noble jewels she can in the process. Her mission is easier said than done, though, and soon enough she gets cursed herself for crossing a god with her greediness. So, throughout the series, she must work towards breaking said curse.
What we love most of this series is the incredible worldbuilding complete with magical, mythological creatures, as well as the sweet love story that simmers in the background with school prefect Emeric Conrad.
Margaret Owen is also the author behind The Merciful Crow Series.
Little Thieves is the perfect series for fans of A Study in Drowning, Blood and Tea and Where the Dark Stands Still. If you loved this series and would like to find more books like these, do check out our blog post all about the Best Fantasy Books for Teens.
