Uglies is an immensely popular YA science fiction series by American author, Scott Westerfled.
 
Set in a futuristic, dystopian world, where everyone is born “Ugly” but turned “Pretty” by extreme cosmetic surgery at aged 16, it follows the story of teenage rebel Tally Youngblood. Sinister and action-packed, the Uglies series questions modern views on beauty and conformity and was at the forefront of the YA dystopian trend. 
 
Uglies is book one in what was orginally a trilogy, but became four books when Extras was published two years later. Since then, Westerfeld has returned to the Uglies world with the Impostors series in 2018, a spin-off series, set in the future after Tally's rebellion.
 
Uglies is currently being adapted by Netflix. The Uglies movie will be produced by and star Joey King, from The Kissing Booth.
 
You need to read the books in order, starting with book one Uglies. The series contains adult themes so is recommended for ages 12+.
