The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis have enchanted generations of children since the publication of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe in 1950, when four children stepped through the back of a wardrobe into the depths of eternal winter for the first time.
CS Lewis went on to write six more Narnia novels between 1950 and 1956, many featuring The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe characters - Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Susan Pevensie
Narnia is a mythical world with evil sorceresses, talking Centaurs and Fauns, Giants, epic battles and, of course, the heroic lion Aslan. The dramatic and fantastical setting and illustrations by Pauline Baynes, make the books a perfect read for ages 8+.
The books have since sold over 100 million copies, and there have also been three Narnia films and several TV and stage adaptations. A new TV series is also in development by Netflix.
There are seven books in the Chronicles of Narnia and they can all be read as standalones but if you want to read the Narnia books in order, then start with The Magician’s Nephew where the world is created and read them in the order below.
