Horrid Henry is one of fiction’s most mischievous troublemakers. The eleven-year-old prankster was born in 1994 and since then the series has grown to an impressive 25 books. He is also the star of two films and the TV adaptation of Horrid Henry is one of CITV’s most successful series.

The books follow defiant Henry as he schemes and plots to play pranks on his little brother Perfect Peter, his arch enemy Moody Margaret, his long-suffering Mum and Dad and many other great characters besides, including Rude Ralph, Sour Susan and Weepy William. His fiendish exploits thrill children as he deals with trying situations like being page boy at a wedding, eating in a posh restaurant, school trips and homework. Henry is mean, naughty and a delight for children. 

Written by bestselling author Francesca Simon, the series is designed for independent readers starting to read for pleasure. The stories are brought to life by popular illustrator Tony Ross, who also illustrates David Walliams’ books. Each book has four short stories, making them achievable before bed and suitable for reading alone from aged 6 upwards.  There is also a series of Early Readers which pull out one of the stories from the original storybooks and are perfect for younger readers.  

You can start anywhere in the series – book one finds Henry at a dance class, on holiday and in an encounter with nemesis Moody Margaret, or you could try Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman which won Children’s Book of the Year Award at the 2008 Galaxy British Book Awards.
