Baker Street Readers Series

The Baker Street Readers take some of the world’s most famous stories from literature and retell them in a fun and accessible way for a new generation.

These books are perfect for readers, young or old, who think the classics are not for them. The lively and colourful, watercolour-style illustrations and the abridged stories help readers wave goodbye to their misconceptions about classic literature. Far from being dry and out of date, these stories have stood the test of time with their gripping plots, thrilling adventures and timeless love stories.

The Baker Street readers retell the classic stories in just 64 pages, with colour illustrations throughout. The best-known quotes and moments from the books are all included, with the stories retold in simpler language.

As well as the fantastic illustrations, we love the extra material in these books. There is a “cast of characters” list at the beginning of each books with brilliant (although sometimes scary!) illustrations of each character alongside a brief description. The books also have information on the historical background of each book, discussion points about the story and some great age-appropriate recommendations for further reading, both books and websites.

The series is perfect for schools and home reading and will really ensure a good understanding of the stories which is a great place to build on for a love of the classics!

These books are an ideal introduction to the works of authors like Charles Dickens, Jane Austen and Shakespeare, not to mention exciting adventure stories like Robinson Crusoe and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

They are a great support to the school curriculum but also show children and adults that the reason these stories have endured is their exciting plots and brilliant characters.
