This is an incredible series told in verse about survival, our relationship with animals and loneliness, perfect for all upper middle grade readers.
Now a New York Times bestselling series, Alone follows the stories of multiple children as they face large-scale evacuations in their hometowns of Colorado. Some are left with no one to rely on, no power, and no working phone lines or internet access. Maddie is one of these children and she must figure out how to survive with only a Rottweiler named George as her companion. Others are sent into evacuation camps, but are still left with many questions, and they will begin an investigation to discover what the true reason for their evacuation is.
Both books are told in a unique free verse format, meaning that the books are completely written as poetry. We have found that this unique format is so easy to read and fall into, and can be especially helpful for reluctant readers who may feel intimidated by thicker books.
This is the perfect series for fans of Hatchet and the I Survived books, and a great series in verse to read before moving onto Sarah Crossan's YA novels in verse.
