I read it myself (an adult)
Gulnare of the Sea 9781911030027

A really accessible read, good old fashioned story telling which would be brilliant to read together with younger children or for a confident reader looking for something magical.  The combination of a nice big font, plenty of white space on the page and liberal sprinkling of endearing illustrations from Anja Gram throughout give the book a real appeal.
Belonging to a series of the Arabian Nights Tales,  Gulnare of the Sea is a gorgeous story, others in the series include the more well known Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and SInbad the Sailor. Kelley Townley does an excellent job in retelling these stories in a simple, engaging style.

Fantastic book with lots of twists and turns. The book says it's from ages 7-11 but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it too. It took me back to my childhood.
Would definitely recommend this book for children and adults alike.

Gulnare Of The Sea is one of the best stories I've ever read! I definitely enjoyed reading about the enchants and the spells that had been put on poor Beder! I think my two favorite characters are Princess Gia and Queen Gulnare. I also liked Queen Labe and how she turned kind after realizing she didn't like to have been turned into an animal and felt bad for everyone she had turned into cows, sheep, horses etc. I would definitely recommend this for people who like adventure and magic. I give this book Gulnare Of The Sea 5 stars.

From The Arabian Nights the story of Gulnare of the Sea is full of magical twists and turns, by land and by sea.

While this book may be designed for ages 7-11 it is a great story for most older ages too. I loved revisiting a story I'd read in my own childhood, and will look out for others in the series.

This is a lovely story full of adventure and magic. It's one of the less well known Arabian nights stories. The girls really enjoyed this story in particular because it was about a princess and much of it was set in the sea. We would love to read more in the series. The book text is easy to read, my 9 year old could read it independently very easily. The text was accompanied by beautiful illustrations. Highly recommended.

Gulnare of the Sea tells the story of a mysterious lady brought to the palace of a great sultan. He founds her strange as she didn't say a word to anyone, but stared at the see -all day, every day. As her story unfolded we discovered an amazing, magical adventures full of kings, underwater kingdoms and battles.
We like the story a lot - personally it reminds me the stories I used to read as a child (25 years ago:)). In this book you will find lots of emotions such as true love, anger, sadness and happiness. It shows that patience and accepting diversity is very important. The cover reflects the content of the book very well. My daughter really like the adventures of King Beder: sanking ship or him being changed into the white bird are her favourite. I think author has written a light, cunning and shrewd book! We already ordered another title in series: The Adventures of Prince Camar and Princess Badoura.
I highly recomend this book not only for 7-10 years old but also for older children!

I have read this book to my 6 year old a chapter at a time each night, just the right length before bed. The story is both wonderful and gripping,  moving through the life of Gulnare and her family both from the sea and land at a cracking pace. There is love, war and magic in this book a few confusing names but loved the book.

We won this book in a Toppsta giveaway.  It has been a super book to share with my daughter who is 7.  It tells the beautiful and Intreguing tale of a sea Princess who finds herself on land and eventually married to a Sultan.  It is one of the Arabian nights tales.  Hannah loved listening to the tale and each night of our holiday, as if it were one of the 1001 nights she asked for more - I read the first couple of paragraphs into the next chapter but no further.  Today the book was brought to me on waking and we read the rest with her 12 year old sister listening too.  I have loved sharing this book with my girls.  Mermaid like sea adventures, Princesses, Enchanted cities, Battles, Love what's not to like?! I think this book lends itself to the spoken genre more than read ot yourself.  The language flows well but I think hearing it and reading it aloud myself felt it is a take worth telling not just reading.  I know we will be looking to start a new book collection now of more in this series.   Something a little different but with the much loved themes running through it appealing to all.

A lovely fairy-tale style story based on classic Arabian stories. I enjoyed reading this story as much as my son and the illustrations add a hint of mystery to the story.
