One of the six political books for kids you should definitely read according to Zoe Williams in the Guardian , November 2018!

Roy and Silo are just like the other penguin couples at the zoo - they bow to each other, walk together and swim together. But Roy and Silo are a little bit different - they're both boys.

Then, one day, when Mr Gramzay the zookeeper finds them trying to hatch a stone, he realises that it may be time for Roy and Silo to become parents for real.

I love this book! Based on a true story from a zoo in Central Park in America, about two male penguins who fall in love and can do everything the others do except have a baby. The zoo keeper places an egg in the nest for Roy and Silo to raise. The book is illustrated beautifully and is so thoughtful.

Classic book based on the true story of zookeepers noticing two male-penguins hanker for a family of their own... so they give them a chick "Tango" to love and look after. A great way to show children that families come in different shapes and sizes... all that matters is love. Ridiculous to think that this is one of the most-banned children's books ?!?!?!?

This is the true story of Roy and silo in New York's Central Park zoo who fall in love and set up home together but realise they are different from the other penguins as they can't have a baby. The keeper gives them a chance and gives them an egg which they care for and baby Tango is born.  This is just a lovely story about love and acceptance. The really nice thing is that my children just accepted it at face value and didn't even question the 2 dads. They were just happy with a happy ending.

This is a fantastic book on every level.  It's beautifully illustrated and it's a lovely story about two male penguins in the New York Zoo who adopt a baby penguin and live together as a family.  A good introduction for very small children about different family structures and being different is ok.  But also just a great story and made even more lovely by the fact that it's a true story.
