The cat flap opened. Emily thought a wild animal was coming into the house. But the muddy creature that climbed through had four little wheels and a tail. It spoke in a voice like rough sandpaper.
'Come on, you two - it's nice and warm in here.'

What if there exists a world powered by imagination?

A world of silliness, where humans and their toys live on long after they've left the Hard World . . . and what if the door between that world and this one was broken?

Welcome to the Land of Neverendings.

Moving, raw and funny in all the right ways, The Land of Neverendings is a rip-roaring adventure, but it also gives an honest portrayal of grief for young readers, and shows us that whilst sadness does exist in the world, it doesn't have to cancel out happiness, or silliness, even when you lose someone you love.

BEST BOOK EVER!   This book is about a girl called Emily who tries to get used to life without her sister Holly. Emily has an exciting adventure with her friends and toys.

This is a truly remarkable book. It's a book about grief and crucially healing. We meet Emma just after she has lost her sister. Her relationship with her family, her friends and teachers in the afternath is explored. It's her relationship with Ruth, a mother who has lost her son, that is so very special. The sheer honesty was refreshing and truly welcome. Given the nature of the book, my son and i read this together. It's a topic people don't talk about unless they have to so it was actually really good at getting us to talk about the book as we went along. The toys they share start coming to life and interfering with daily life and these parts provided the humour and distraction. We really recommend it. It's very moving, i cried a few times!

Wow! This is a wonderful story created by Kate Saunders.

I have to admit that i was taken aback by how strong the start was and i am not ashamed to admit that i cried in the first chapter. I think Saunders really put her all into that opening and i felt an affinity to Holly, who we haven't met but only read about in 'flashbacks', i felt like i knew her and i grieved for her too. This element is carried on throughout, i really felt that it started strong and didn't dwindle from it's starting block.

I love the touches of silliness throughout the book, which differentiates between the Hard World and the imagination of the land of Neverendings (Smockeroon).

I thought it kept a remarkably well done line between moving, emotional and humorous.

I am in total awe of this book right now.

I really enjoyed reading this book and did not want to put it down at all. This book is full of imagination and fun but also looks at some difficult issues like bereavement. I will definitely be buying a hard copy of this book for home.

What a wonderful book ! Full of the magic worlds where your imagination can take you. A lovely ending with the message that sad things sometimes happen in life, but everything will be all right in the end. I would give it 10 stars if I could !

This is an excellent book of imagination and how it gives toys life in their own world, but also tackles the subject of childhood death and bereavement. extremely well told from a mixture of real life stories, it tells of how Emily and Ruth are able to come to terms with their loses, by fixing the door to the toys world that let in the darkness.

this book has left me wanting to read more from Kate Saunders.

This was such a heart-wrenching story about Emily who's lost her sister Holly recently. There aren't that many books dealing with grieving and beareavement. Many times the death of the loved one is overlooked but this story concentrates on it. Strange things beginning happening and the toys are part of the mystery.

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was sometimes it was hard to read when Emily wishes she could join Holly after death.

A different but interesting book to read

I loved this book as it was full of brilliant vocabulary. My favourite character was Emily as she was like a clever chatterbox and she was a very emotional girl. I liked how the imagination was used to make a land called Smockeroon. I also liked how Emily tried to meet her dead sister and her dead sister teddy bear bluey.

I felt that the book could be a little bit better if it had more of adventures to let the readers think more. I also enjoyed reading as the character Emily was hard working and it was surprising that she got along so well even after her sister died. It was impressive the way she tried her best to sort things out with Ruth the antique shop owner.

I would like to recommend this book to all emotional children.

It is always upsetting when we hear of a child/young person dying and my heart always goes out to the family. This book explores the effects on the families of those lost too young and it is sometimes a tearjerking read but it is delightfully playful too. Such a comforting idea, that lost loved ones are still able to connect with their favourite toys in another land, I very much enjoyed this fantasy for middle grade readers.

I really liked this book.  In this story people imagine lives for their toys, in a place called smockeroon but what they don't know is that, this world is leaking into the real world and so some people have to go somewhere to save it.  Along the way they need to defeat the black toad who is messing everything up because he is the source of all evil, sadness and badness.

The Land of Neverendings is where toys - and the children who loved them and brought them to life with their imaginations - can live together, happily ever after. But a doorway has been opened and the barrier between the two worlds is shifting. Toys from The Land of Neverendings appear in the hard world and a strange darkness and despair from the real world creeps in to the town of Smockeroon. Emily and her friends must learn how to close the door before the
A beautiful child-friendly exploration of grief, loss and depression, with some fabulous characters and a lot of light amongst the dark. We loved the humour and imagination in the world of Smockeroon - Barbie dolls living as nuns because they'd been deformed by their owners in the hard world, penguins running high brow B&Bs and the power struggles and hierarchies involved in any society fantastically reimagined for toys. The importance of female friendship and friendship across the generations is beautifully portrayed, creating a warm and moving story about understanding loss and looking for the beauty and bright side in life. Brilliant for 9 + and fans of Aubrey and the Terrible Yoot.
