An amazing book about feelings which helps children to explore feelings. As a counsellor I feel it is very important for children to learn about feelings and how to express them .Lucy loved the book and we talked about feelings using the book to explain them and explore her own feelings. I would highly recommend the book.

There is a beautiful book, both in terms of how it is written and the illustrations. My son was initially struck by the the cut out section which finally reveals an image of one boy. I don't think this will be something he wants to read on a regular basis, but it acts as an explanation, a reminder, of some difficult concepts and emotions. It is very easy to relate to the words and images used, spot on in fact.  I felt the final page was particularly important reminding the reader how 'everyone is different and their feeling aren't the same'. I was struck by how my son blurted something about 'jealousy' on the first day that I read it too him (not a word he would normally use, cannot remember the context), so he had been thinking about the book. Hopefully,  it aids further self awareness and empathy in the future. An excellent book for all primary school age children.

Well let me start by saying that this book was enjoyed by all three of us; I can't quite decide who liked it more, myself or my two youngest boys. I bought this book as our family have been on a rollercoaster of emotions for nearly eighteen months since my eldest sons cancer diagnosis and my mother, the boy's grandmothers, cancer diagnosis and passing. I went on the search for books that would engage emotions and help the boys understand more. 'Feelings' certainly did that, the way it visualises emotions is very captive & the cutout page formula always holds my boy's attention. Visually where the child stays the same from page to page, feelings do not, they change, reflecting real life very well and it also teaches us how to try and understand how other people may be feeling and how their feeling change just like ours. An absolute keeper!

As a sufferer of anxiety and depression I try to talk to my kids about feelings. This book has been ever so helpful. My daughter has a greater understanding of emotions and feelings and knows it's ok to sometimes be sad. Lovely soft illustrations complete the book nicely.

Feelings is a beautiful book. It has high production values and the cut out on the front cover gives the book is an immediate draw for children. Both of my sons wanted to pick it straight up because they were interested to explore the cut out and how it featured through the book. The illustration on the front cover, sleeve pages and throughout the book is outstanding and pitched perfectly to accompany the content of the book. Illustrations are colourful, calm, bold, vibrant and striking when they need to be to accompany the emotion portrayed in each page.
The descriptive rhyming prose is very musical and it is successful in keeping my children's attention. It's a great book for opening up discussions with your children about feelings. At each header, I took a moment to ask my children how they felt when they were happy, angry, jealous, excited or embarrassed. What I found interesting is that sometimes my children didn't know how to explain how they felt during those emotions. However, as we read on the book helped to describe those emotions like
"Embarrassed - Your face feels like it's burning and the spotlight's shining bright, the world is staring at you in this pure but blinding light. The air is still and silent as your heart beats like a drum. You wish that you could disappear and all you feel is numb."

After this my children would say " Oh yes that is what it feels like" and hearing it described like that is a great thing for children realising that these emotions are normal and that's it's ok to feel like that - everybody does from time to time.
It's a great book and I'd like to make sure we get a copy for my son's school library. I would recommend :)

At the age of 4, my daughter started to experience emotions outside of the usual range of 'toddler giggles and tantrums' - from moving cities, homes and schools, to making and losing friends, to suddenly feeling fearful of the dark and of being alone etc. I WISH I'd had this gorgeous book to hand then. It's the perfect compendium to dip into, to help support you in supporting them.

With beautiful illustrations and rhythmic, child-friendly explanations of the human condition, you can focus on just one or two pages at a time, or read as a whole. I found my daughter had quite a few 'light-bulb' moments when reading this book for the first time, and since then, has quoted from the book when she's experienced a significant emotion.

The tactile cover cut out is also a wonderful addition - my daughter loves to 'feel' the feelings while we're reading. A fantastic way to introduce your kids to philosophy and self-awareness.

My son enjoyed this book and asked for it again the following day. The description of anger as molten lava particularly appealed to him! Rather than a story that you would read together regularly, it is more of a tool for parents to use to open a conversation about emotions, how it is normal to have different feelings and how to deal with them etc. It would be particularly useful if your child tends to 'shut down' in response to uncomfortable/difficult situations (e.g. at school) rather than proactively chatting about what happened. The peep-through style really engaged my son too.

We bought this book as I had seen great reviews about it, and it lives up to them. It follows a little boy who describes feelings in a creative way. My daughter really liked the illustrations, especially the cut out section of the little boy. It is a book that we will come back to time and again.

A beautifully illustrated book which does a great job of explaining feelings to children. My 3 year old didn't fully understand all of it but he understood enough to help talk about times when he might have felt certain ways. It was also good for helping put feelings into perspective for my 7 and 3 year old.

I two really liked the pictures in the book and how the colours and scenery changed to describe the feelings. The boy on his own helped make it feel like he was saying how each one made him feel. Good description because I find it hard to explain how I feel sometimes.

It's good to teach children about feelings and how to express them, so I'd recommend this book to help do that
