A dragon with a short temper is not a good combination, as Fergal's family and friends soon find out. He burns the dinner (literally), reduces the football goal to ashes and absolutely cannot play a nice, quiet board game. It is only when he starts to notice other animals have clever tricks to calm down that Fergal begins to win back his friends, especially when he discovers dragons can cool off in a very handy way.

This is a delightful picture book to add to our growing collection. In it we meet Fergal, an adorable little dragon, that is, until someone asks him to do something he doesn't want to do! Fergal struggles to keep his cool and when he loses his temper he breathes fire, often destroying  objects as a result. Gradually Fergals animal friends lose patience with him, so he must find new ways to stay calm and manage his fiery temper.

This book was excellent to read with my often fiery little 4 year old dragon. It introduces lots of nice strategies to use with toddlers to help them keep their cool.

My son thought the drawings were great, particularly the front cover artwork where we see Fergus burning a whole through the page. He was able to talk about the techniques Fergal uses to stay calm and has even carried these out in real life.

This book could be used in a primary classroom as part of  a PSHE lesson. It can be used to help children develop their emotional literacy and provide strategies for children to use in order to recognise, understand and handle their feelings.

I highly recommend this book for teachers to use with a class in a circle time activity or parents struggling with the toddler tantrums!

I read Fergal is Fuming to Carter,  I hoped it would help him with the 'MINE' we have been hearing more and more recently.  He enjoyed the story and hopefully picked up some of the lessons given in the book.  Carter went and got this book last night for his bedtime read.

We really love this book. The pictures are charming and engaging and you can't help feel for Fergal and his friends. Its a great book to discuss feelings of frustration or anger as Fergal incinerates anything in his way that he finds frustrating, like a board game that he loses or having to eat his greens.  It has some really useful ways to tackle anger and I have found it a good starting point, to come up with other ideas with my son. It is also a great stand alone story about a dragon if you don't need to talk about anger and tantrums too!

This is a great book, great quality and illustrations are really nice. Fergal has a bad temper and when he gets angry, bad things happen. Like burning the football goal. Soon his friends have had enough, but with a little help he learns how to control it. Then learns other ways his friends control there's. A great story with a reallt good message.

This is a lovely book for talking about anger and frustration. Both my two-year-old and my seven-year-old who is autistic could relate to Fergal's fiery moments! The illustrations are great and the text is simple and well explained. The first half gives examples of situations that make him cross and the impact that has on others around him. The second half of the story where Fergal finds ways to cope with his fiery moments was especially helpful and we will come back to this a few more times at least to talk about coping strategies. This would be a perfect book for any young child as they all have those moments where they struggle to control their emotions. It would also be an ideal circle time book for a nursery or Infant setting. A very useful and well-thought out book.

This book came at a great time for us as my 2 and a half year is really taking his tantrums to the next level. In the book fergal gets angry when he doesn’t get his own way and ends up blasting things with his fiery breath. Eventually none of his friends want to play anymore as he gets so angry. Fergals mum helps him to find a technique to calm himself down. I found this has helped my little boy as I remind him about the book when he gets angry.

This is a very good book to read to little ones. Shows children how loosing your temper is not a good thing. Also shows children how to calm down and be happy. The pictures are very well drawn and easy for children to recognise how the dragon is feeling.

Viola loved this book! It's about Fergal, a dragon who struggles to control his temper and this often results in less than pleasant situations! Viola found this book funny, but could also connect with the idea that it's okay to be cross, but there is a better way to deal with anger than the way Fergal does originally. It teaches children basic coping techniques and we have referred to them when Viola has fiery moments of her own. Really loved reading this as it encouraged dialogue too. Would recommend this for those who have a child who sometimes struggle to deal with emotions a it really teaches children the idea that it's okay to be cross as long as we deal with it correctly.

Lovely sturdy hardback with a small "scorched" cut out on cover about Fergal, a dragon with a short fuse!  This is one of my favourites because it is just so appropriate to read to a combustible four year old who has just started school.  In a gentle, playful way children learn of the consequences of losing your temper & how it can spoil things, in Fergal's case, literally! Later it tells how other animals learn to rein in their tempers when they feel themselves getting in a pickle, like cat having a nice stretch. Tom enjoyed the story very much although seemed to find the dragons destruction more fun than anything else at this point!  It will be excellent as he learns to read with clear short sentences and fun sounds to pronounce and I would definitely recommend it.

Good illustrations depicting how fergal is fuming and struggling to control his emotions! I read it to my 21 month old who didn't really seem.that taken it by it so I think it was a little old for him so potentially the age range should start at 2 to 7 as oppose to 1 for this book. Had he been a little older I've no doubt it would of really sunk in and helped.

Fergal has a short temper with lands him into trouble and loses friends so he has to learn to control his temper. A brilliant book for children going through the toddler tantrum stage
