Super Sloth isn't fast. He can't fly. But he is very, very good at moving slowly and looking just like a greenish bit of tree. When his arch enemy Anteater makes off with some prize mangoes, Super Sloth vows to save the day... eventually.

From the creator of Waterstones Prize shortlisted Fergal is Fuming comes Starling's laugh-out-loud tale of one ordinary sloth turned super hero.

This is a really funny book. It is about a sloth wanting to be a superhero when he finds a comic on the floor. When Toucan shouted for help Sloth came to help but he was too slow. Sloth had to try to get Anteater how stole the mangoes. I really liked the ending of the book because it made me laugh. The pictures were brilliant! There are also some sloth facts and super sloth facts at the end of the book and they are amazing.

Anyone can be a superhero, you just need to use what you're good at. That's how super sloth finds how to defeat the secret mango stealer in the jungle.

We all enjoyed this book, good quality hardback with lovely illustrations and written with warmth and humour. A nice length for young children. We really enjoyed the facts at the back too, and that it introduces animals that children might not be familiar with yet. Lovely.

A charming book about how anyone can be a super hero if they use their strengths. Funny, lovely artwork, quality pages and written using great words like Kaflump, bother and glum. We thought it was great.

A great book about a very unlikely superhero. After seeing a comic strip Sloth decides to be Super Sloth! He finds it tricky at first but when he plays to his strengths and does what he does best he saves the day! A great message for kids, to be themselves, and a fun and exciting story too.

The children have been loving superhero stories recently and so I was very excited to introduce them to our new book Super Sloth. Having read Superkitty most days for the last few months I was hoping they'd enjoy Super Sloth for a bit of variety in our super animal books and they certainly have enjoyed this one over the past week and have read it a couple of times each day (although they've requested it to be read more times than that!) I wasn't sure how many of them would recognise the Sloth as it's not an animal that children see very often so we talked a bit about sloths first so they could better understand the story, a few of the children did know it was sloth though and couldn't wait to tell us what they knew! The story is about a sloths adventures after he discovers a comic on the ground and decides that he'd like to be a superhero like the characters in the comic and he sets off to help his friend toucan. The children loved seeing him turn into a superhero and set off on his mission and found it amusing to see how he deals with all the obstacles that get in his way. Some of them had to be reminded why they became an issue for him because of his speed but most of them remembered that sloths were slow and could see why he was having problems. I think sloth is a great character as although you wouldn't think he could achieve becoming a super hero because of his characteristics he doesn't try to change himself to be like someone else but instead just keeps trying and finding a way that works for him and what he's capable of which is a great attitude for the children to see and the perfect message for a super hero book showing children that they are capable of anything they put their mind to. Some of the other characters in the book were animals they hadn't heard of before like toucan and anteater so having them named the same was great for them to learn some more less commonly heard of animals for the children. The illustrations in the book are fantastic and the children love how they're so full of colour and fun jungle scenes (and of course seeing Super Sloth being the best superhero he can be!) The Super Sloth facts at the back of the book are a great addition to help us learn a bit more about a sloth with facts I didn't even know, a lot of the children were inquisitive about sloths whilst we were reading the book wanting to know where they came from and so it was very handy to have the facts as I had no idea about where they came from and definitely didn't have fun facts to tell like the book did. The children loved Super Sloth and they were happy to see sloth do so well by just being himself, having read this book many many times already I've no doubt that we'll be reading this book again and again and I wouldn't mind doing so as this is such a fantastic book and one that even the children who aren't keen on listening to stories are listening to intently!

This was a great book to read. Super Sloth shows that you don’t need to be super speedy to have super powers. This book was bright and colourful. We loved the cut out on the front cover and the facts about sloths at the end where we all said, ‘I didn’t know sloths...!’

This is a great book and we all found it amusing. It's about a sloth who decides to become a superhero, which isn't as easy as he first thought as he moves so slowly. But he works on his strengths and manages to save the day. I really liked the sloth as he was brave , courageous and worked out what he was good at. A good message to my little ones. Lovely illustrations and my kids loved it.

What a lovely story about a sloth that becomes a superhero! It sends the message that you don’t need to be the fastest, the best, the biggest to be a superhero, we need superheroes of all shapes sizes and abilities!

It's good because sloth is a bit bad and a bit good at being a superhero. I like the sloth facts at the end. I want to show it to my friends at nursery and read it lots of times.

A sweet and quirky superhero story that we enjoyed reading together! Lovely art work on every page. Easy to read. Entertaining, and daring to be a little bit different! The characters are simple and likeable. It made us smile.

We liked the cut out hard cover. We liked the facts pages at the back of the book too!

About Robert Starling

Rob began doodling creatures and characters at school and hasn't stopped since. He lives and works in Norwich, and when he's not sketching up new characters or writing down stories he can be found sculpting, brewing coffee, adjusting his headphones or foraging in the kitchen for cake. Oh, and teaching kids. Fergal is Fuming is his first book....
