I absolutely loved this book - it's a really gentle story of a lion cub who would rather hug than hunt. It covers so many sensitive subjects such as being different, being isolated from a group and showing love and affection, and does so in such a beautiful, thoughtful way. It can be very hard to find books where male characters are portrayed as gentle, caring and loving so I think this is a really good book to read to challenge stereotypes.

As well as the story being just lovely, the illustrations are bright and cheerful, just right for younger children. My 1 year old loved looking at all the different animals and making appropriate noises! The rhyming text is also great for younger ones who aren't quite ready to follow a story but enjoy rhythm and rhyme.

My 1 year old and I really enjoyed this book and would thoroughly recommend it!

This is my Daddy's favourite picture book.  I like it a lot too (even though I'm a bit to old for it) I like that the lion wants to be different to others.  But in the end everyone wants to be his friend.

This is one of my favourite books because I love animals especially big ones! I love that it rhymes too and that the pictures are so colourful. Mummy says it gives a good message which is that you should always be yourself and not try to be what others want you to be or think you should be - we are all different and that is OK.

This is a charming story that shows children the importance of being kind and in a gentle way not to conform to typical stereotypes in terms of behaviour and feeling. My daughter loves lions, the illustrations are sweet and she straight away decided she was the cute little lion in this story. We started with a roar, as the story progressed this changed, so did how cosy she got as she snuggled in more hanging on my every word until the end which I'm sure you can guess once you start reading but I won't spoil it for you. Definitely worth a look. We picked this copy up from our local library, she choose it herself, I think we might invest in her own copy.

I love this book and the message behind it - that sometimes you don't have to do what is expected of you if you know that really you want to do the right thing. It shows children the importance of being kind and caring to others. The illustrations are lovely and it's a great book to read together and discuss afterwards.
