In his hilarious picture book debut, the acclaimed Mo Willems perfectly captures a toddler's temper tantrum.

When a bus driver takes a break in this hilarious Caldecott Honor-winning picture book, he gives the reader just one instruction: "Don't let the pigeon drive the bus!" But, boy, that pigeon tries every trick in the book to get in that driving seat: he whines, wheedles, fibs and flatters. Will you let him drive? Told entirely in speech bubbles, this brilliantly original and funny picture book demands audience participation!

I read this book to a group of 3year olds. The really enjoyed it and found it very funny. A bus driver goes on his break, and a pigeon tries to persuade the reader/children listening to the story to let him be the bus driver. It is silly but funny, with great illustrations.

Don’t let the pigeon is a series of books about a silly pigeon who always wants something he really should not be having or doing. Just like most toddlers...This a hilarious, short story about pigeon’s newest idea to become a bus driver for a day, it will try anything to make his dream true : the pigeon will ask nicely, shout, scream ,beg, cry, ask again and even throw a tantrum or two! And makes you cry with laugh !

So funny - this book has had all my kids in hysterics.

The protagonist is a pigeon. He wants to get behind the wheel but the bus driver will not let him. When the bus driver goes for a break he asks you, the reader to make sure the pigeon does NOT drive the bus.

For all children who have begged to do something when their parents have said no. And for every parent who has said no to a child who has begged them to do something. The pigeon will try every trick in the book to get you to let him drive the bus - he will beg, scream, bargain, tantrum ... can you hold out?

The words are all written in speech bubbles and the pictures wonderful. If your children are as obsessed as mine about this book you can even buy a toy pigeon - my 4 year old will now only read this book when her pigeon is with her. But she still won't let him drive her (toy) bus!

Both my children have loved this book and it's stood up to multiple readings. The story of a pigeon who tries his hardest to persuade you, the reader, to let him drive a bus while the driver is away, it's easy to read and loads of fun. The pigeon's simple yet winning facial expressions and persuasive tactics are funny and engaging and by the time you get to the page where the pigeon loses his cool, my children are always in stitches. Mo Willems knows his audience and plays to it perfectly.
