Cassie visits a fox's lair and gets swept up by a bird, but Mum is always just a step behind. Cassie knows this and so does the reader, but Mum is in the dark. In the end, mother and child are reunited. The author's When the World Sleeps was runner up for the 1989 Mother Goose award.
