New York City girl Claudia, a mere month shy of being a twelve-year-old, has resolved to run away from home with her younger brother, Jamie. She knows that she could never pull off the classic spur-of-the-moment departure without a destination (inevitably involving having to eat outside with the insects, and cupcakes melting in the sun); so she plans everything to perfection, including their destination: the grand, elegant, beautiful, all-encompassing Metropolitan Museum of Art.

However, no sooner have Claudia and Jamie settled into their new home, than they are caught up in the mystery of an angel statue bought by the museum for the bargain price of $225. Is it in fact an as yet undiscovered work by Michelangelo, worth millions? Claudia is determined to find out, and her quest leads her to the remarkable, secretive Mrs. Frankweiler, who sold the statue to the museum - and to some equally remarkable discoveries about herself.

Since its first appearance nearly 50 years ago, The Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler has gained a place in the hearts of generations of readers - and has rightly become one of the most celebrated and beloved children's books of all time.

This is a fantastic book to read and is the kind of book you could read again and again.

I really felt for the characters Claudia and Jamie and think they had a beautiful sister brother relationship.

The story is based on running away from home and going to New York to spend their time in the museum but they get caught up an angel statue that they believe to be the work of Michelangelo. Knowing the museum bought it for a small sum they set of to find the owner who sold it to the museum.

I'm so pleased I read this story because I feel like it's a book I will remember and when I have children would recommend this story to them.

This is such a gorgeous book, in ever single way! From the jacket design and cover illustrations to the beautiful tale narrated by one Mrs Basil E Frankweiler - who has a pivotal role in the tale which becomes apparent near the end.
Originally published in 1967 it is the tale of two children, Claudia (11...but one month under 12!) and Jamie (9) who run away to New York City from the commuting suburb of Greenwich. Claudia, who feels she is not appreciated at home, has planned the greatest adventure...and by necessity (he was rich!) enlisted her brother Jamie.  Mindful not to be too uncomfortable during the escapade, and to maintain an education, Claudia has planned to runaway to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City with the intention of returning home 'after everyone had learned a lesson in Claudia appreciation...'
It's perfect! They sleep in a bed owned by a queen and bathe in a fountain with bronze dolphins! Hiding in a museum! Who wouldn't love that? The Museum becomes their home, their playground and while they initially wander the galleries in the daytime learning about the exhibitions, venturing outside for meals, they soon become interested by the mystery of a fabulous angel statue which adds a level of urgency to their days as they strive to find out its secret before they need to return home.
This is a beautiful story, a gentle, funny story about adventure and secrets and I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Absolutely amazing! This book was gripping from beginning to end, the way it has been written leaves you questioning everything about it after you are done. Claudia and Jamie are such interesting characters and I have enjoyed getting to know them in this wonderfully sweet story. I recommend to all audiences...

This book was a great read I really enjoyed it. It was an easy book to read and I could read this book over and over. I liked that it had a few pictures in it so you know what they look like and can imagine things better.
I loved following the adventures of Claudia and Jamie who run away to live in a museum. What a great place to live. Claudia is very determined to find as much out about the Angel statue as possible which arrives in the museum. I won't spoil it but a must read

This is a book that i had heard of several years ago, and so was very pleased to receive a copy of it to review. My eldest child read the book for the most part to himself, and at great speed - so, I can note that it was both engaging and absorbing to him, and that once started he did not want to put it down. The story is about two children, a sister and a brother, who decide to run away and live in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. While there, they uncover a mystery which they then set out to solve.  The parts that I read to my son were well written, and the occasional illustrations were charming and evocative.

I asked my son what he thought of the book - he replied that he enjoyed the adventure and wanted to know what would happen next. The reason that he gave it four stars (rather than five), was that he would have liked the book to have been longer!

This book is very good, it has some funny parts and its easy to read.

The book is set around two children who run away and live in a museum. How cool would it be to live in a museum!

My favourite character is Jamie because he is super funny and silly.
