An epic tale of a girl who has been the centre of everybody's troubles and was deprived of friends and a decent family. After being abducted by a mysterious ginger figure she is introduced to a world full of magic and wonder. I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to everybody over the age of 9!

This was a book that once we started we could not put down. There is a lot of reading but we ploughed through it and read it in 3 sittings! It is such a page turner with action and adventure in every chapter.

Morrigan, the main character, is a cursed child doomed to die on her eleventh birthday. However she meets Jupiter North and life becomes very different. There are so many characters in this story that stand out and show good and bad traits.

This book would be perfect for any child who loves Harry Potter or magical stories.

This is a brilliant book it is a little sad at first as Morrigan's family aren't kind to her.  BUt once she meets Jupiter and travels to the hidden realm everything changes for her.  I loved this book as it reminded me of Harry Potter learning about a new world.  I can't wait to read the next book.

I really, very much enjoyed Jessica Townsend’s first book, which is part of the Nevermoor series.  If you love Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, this is definitely for you!

This is a magical adventure book.  There are illustrations at the start of each chapter and the cover by Beatriz Castro.

Morigan Crow is cursed and lives in Crow Manor with her dad and stepmum.  Hawthorne is her new friend who she meets in Nevermoor.  Jupiter North is a member of the Wundrous Society, Jack is hi she nephew and dislikes Morrigan.

A synopsis  - the time has finally come for the cursed child Morrigan Crow to die.  Sadly on her 11th birthday.  She is trying to make the most of her bad life before she passes.  Without warning, Morrigan is taken away by Jupiter North who then takes her to a never heard of before city: Nevermoor.  She’s been nominated to join the Wundrous Society and to earn the very special seat on the train!!  Before that she needs to undertake four arduous tasks.  One problem... what is her exceptional talent?

I was very excited reading this because I wanted to know if she would pass the challenges.  I think the language used in this book, is quite advanced so I think it would be best for 11 years plus, or younger of course for the challenge!

This book was so good I couldn't put it down. What I liked about the book was each different character had a clear personality. Morrigan Crow (the main character) is destined to die on her eleventh birthday but when the clock strikes midnight she is whisked away by a strange looking man called Jupiter North. Jupiter takes her to a town called Nevermoor. Nevermoor isn't like a town Morrigan had ever seen before. In order to stay in the town Morrigan needs to complete 4 impossible trials. She needs stamina confidents and a talent that she needs to find before its to late...

This book was creepy and magical and very funny. My mum says parts of it remind her of Roald Dahl books. The main character is cursed and blamed for every little thing that goes wrong. She is very likeable so you want her to do well in the trials so she can escape the curse. I wanted to keep reading it to find out what happened and didn’t want to put it down even when it was bedtime. I think it would make a brilliant film and I can’t wait to read the next one.

This book is sooooooo good! Morrigan Crow knows she is going to die next year on her 12th Birthday because next year is eventide and on eventide cursed children die. But then eventide comes early! So Morrigan prepares to die. Then a strange ginger man shows up and whisks her away to  the wonderful world of nevermoor so she can join the wundrous society. Little does Morrigan know that whilst trying to get into the wundrous society she might die. I love this book and my favourite character is Morrigan Crow. This book is stuffed full of mystery and adventure and I love it. My favourite part was when Morrigan meets her best friend Hawthorne. I would recommend this book to magic and mystery lovers age 8 or 9 and up.

I am not surprised this book won an award with waterstones, it’s is a great book to read. I bought for my daughter 11 for Easter holidays. We both ended up reading it within two days as we wanted to know what would happen to Morrigan Crow ( Mog) would she get to though the trails or would the dark shadow hunt be able to reach her. It’s a lovely book and can’t wait to read book 2. Hopefully they’ll be a few more in the series.

Morrigan Crow is cursed. Having been born on Eventide, the unluckiest day for any child to be born, she's blamed for all local misfortunes, from hailstorms to heart attacks--and, worst of all, the curse means that Morrigan is doomed to die at midnight on her eleventh birthday.
A fantastically different story weaving dark elements and magical frivolity. A place I'd like to visit and one of my current favourites, can't wait to get to the sequel on my tbr pile.

I absolutely  this book! It is so good! Morrigan is so fierce and plucky, Jupiter is determined and funny and Noelle is a spoiled brat who thinks she`s the best!

There were no illustrations but the descriptions were so clear that I didn`t need illustrations.

I recommend this book to everyone.

I really enjoyed this book. It took me a long time to read it but it was worth it. The characters were described well and I could really see them in my mind when I was reading. I liked that the story had a lot of magical themes and events. I would like to read the next adventures that Morrigan goes on to see what happens to her next.

This was a really fun book and I liked it a lot. Morrigan is a funny character and I feel a bit sorry for her because she has such bad luck all the time. But then she is taken to a magical world called Nevermoor where she has the chance to stay if she can win a magical competition. The only problem is that she doesn't really have any magical skills so she has to find other ways to survive the tests!

I met the author and she signed my copy for me, she was super nice and I think if you like books with magic and wizards and stuff you'll really like this.

I am reviewing this book on look as I want to give it to children on the oncology ward and therefore I cannot touch it too much, I don’t want to put germs on the pages. I love that this book is a good thickness and means there’s a lot to read. The cover is inviting and makes the book look magical. I like the picture of Morrigan so that I know what she looks like before I read. There are some lovely pictures at the start of each chapter, I think a few more full sized ones would be great. I think the kids are going to love this book. Thankyou.

So, we won Wundersmith The Calling of Morrigan Crow on Toppsta and then realised there was the second book in the series. We purchased The Trials of Morrigan Crow so that we could read this first and then follow up with the second book.
Scarlett tried a few times to engage with the first book but struggled. She is 9, and according to the age category it should have suited her age. Eventually we sat and read the book allowed together. I had to agree with her that it was a hard book to get into. It was slow moving and didn't drag you in to the story immediately. Scarlett is loving the Cathy Cassidy series at the moment and I wander if the reason she didn't engage in this book is because they are a 2 different ends of the spectrum. 1 being set in the modern times, talking about schools, teenage love etc and the other being a fantasy set in a different world. I think, for both of us (mother and daughter!) there is something about the book being 'believable'. In this case The Trials of Morrigan Crow was a little detached from reality and a bit far fetched. Maybe we just don't have great imaginations! I can however see how it would appeal to other children. However, storyline aside I did think the book was written very well and was very descriptive.

The book was okay and had some drama and funny bits in it and was quite thrilling in some parts and you wanted to find out more about what happened
Was quite let down as the cover of the book looked very well and made me think the book was a fast action packed
Illustrations were just for the next chapter in the book and it could have done with some photos so you can really get into the book.

Amelia was really loooking forward to this book as she has read all the Harry Potter books and is a huge fan of that type of book.  However, despite wanting to love it and enjoy it, she said it was a little boring and she wasn’t able to connect with it or get into the story.  She managed to get to chapter 3 before giving up which is unlike her as she doesn’t usually leaVe books unfinished.  I’m not sure if its too old for her, as shes 10 but perhaps we will try again in the future or I may try reading it to her to see if I can make it more interesting for her.  Such a shame.
