But Danny McGee does just that - and now he has his sights on other things. Soon he's swallowing trees, flies, fleas, peas, mountains ... where will it end?!Andy Stanton has won a string of awards for his Mr Gum books, including the Red House Children's Book Award, the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, and the Blue Peter Book Award for Best Book With Pictures.Neal Layton is the multi-award-winning illustrator of the Emily Brown books.

This book was hilarious! My 4 year old loved it as did my older kids. They liked the twist at the end and I enjoyed reading it as the rhythm is satisfying.

Brought after reading reviews and it’s a book we have fell in love with. The children aged 3-4 found it funny from start to finish and followed it through to the end. It’s a book most siblings can relate to. Highly
Recommend to everyone

Andy Stanton’s better known for his brilliant Mr Gum series for young independent readers, but this supremely silly, outrageously anarchic, and slightly surreal story became my favourite picture book of the year bar none. Danny McGee Drinks the Sea tells a tale of a sibling challenge that snowballs in the most hilarious fashion, and with its simple rhymes and easy flow, it is so much fun to read aloud.

When Danny bets Franny that he can drink the whole sea and she doubts him, Danny gleefully sets about proving his sister wrong. The sea appears to be just for starters though, and, smug in his victory, Danny sets about proving that he has room for much, much more… It is perhaps worth remembering though that gloaters are annoying, and more importantly, sisters shouldn’t ever be underestimated…

Neal Layton’s energetic, scribbly style and photographic collages are a perfect fit for the words here, too. I especially love the surprise inclusion of Andy Stanton himself among the jumble that finds itself unexpectedly inside Danny McGee. My sister works in early years education and insists that this book always hits the spot for a successful class read. “I’ve perfected the art of covering that bottom-flash with my finger.” she recently told me, whilst grinning over the rim of her tea mug. A hit with grown-ups and kids alike, this really is first-rate silliness, and one I’ll never get tired of consuming

Such a funny story, had my little ones in giggles, have had to read it every-day since we received it and often more than once.
Some lovely pictures

About a boy, Danny, who drinks the sea, and pretty much everything including the author!
Told in rhymes.

This is one of those books you can start reading when they aren't entirely happy or are pretending you aren't there, and wishing seconds they are there listening and giggling away.

This is an hilariously funny book about a little boy named Danny McGee and his sister Frannie. Danny McGee decides to drink the sea but he doesn't stop there! Great rhymes with marvellous illustrations and a zany storyline that is sure to make your child giggle. It reminded me of Dr Seuss who is hugely popular in our household. We absolutely adored this book and it has become a firm bedtime favourite.

We received this book after winining a giveaway. Finally got around to reading it last night and my daughter loved it. She kept making gasping noises when I read that Danny swallowed the sea and swallowed a tree.

I asked her what she favourited part was and she said when Frannie swallowed Danny and she giggled.

Great illustrations and brightly coloured to keep the eyes happy. Love the rhyming words and names.

We adore this book!! It's a joy to read (the rhyme and rhythm are brilliant) and makes us laugh out loud every time. The author has such a great sense of humour and this is conveyed throughout the story. Danny and Frannie, the main characters, are a typical brother and sister and the idea of them trying to out do each other is very familiar to my children. Our favourite part features the author himself (although we won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it yet!). If we could give it 6 stars we definitely would!

Such a great book. First of all- it has a hard back which instantly makes it stand out. Secondly the pictures a great. Thirdly, it is written well in rhyme. The storyline is funny. It is basically about a boy who swallow everything until his friend swallows him. Highly recommend it!

My daughter loves this book and we have read it lots and lots of times. She thinks it's hilarious that a little boy can eat and drink everything in sight; the funniest part was when his sister ate him ! It's a bit of a bizarre story and I read it first and wasn't sure what Arya would think ....she loved it!
The illustrations are fantastic and each page has lots to see and talk about. I would definitely recommend this book.

As an adult reading this book with my child I wasn't quite sure what to think at first. It's got fun rhymes but the first time I read it I thought it was all a bit silly - the next time I read it with my daughter I realised that that was the point - it IS all a bit silly and that's where the fun lies. It's even illustrated in a jokey way - my two-year-old that it was hilarious which just goes to show that grown-ups don't always know what will appeal to kids the most.

This book was a real fun for my older daughter (7) who enjoyed the story and she was hooked by illustrations! They are really beautiful and catching children's attention. The younger one (4) was a bit disappointed as she was hoping for happy ending (for example that Danny will split out everything and everyone he's got in his tummy:)! Both girls loved the fact that Andy Stanton (the author) does  appear to be inside the book - hilarious idea! They were laughing and asking what is he doing there? Overall they like this book and it found a good place on their bookshelf:)

Andy Stanton has done a brilliant job here. Danny McGee and Frannie go to the sea and Danny vows to drink it all up... he succeeds and goes on to swallow almost everything, including America, London and even a 'swee'. Told through rhymes, this is a brilliantly funny book. I love the illustrations and the fact that they use mixed media (illustrations and photos).
Sure to have your little ones in fits of giggles... only missing a 'BURP'.

This is a really strange story - but we love it, particularly Jess (3), who giggles lots while reading it!  Danny Mcgee decides to drink the sea,  and ends up drinking everything and everybody...until the tables are turned!

The book is solid and brightly coloured, so very attractive to look at.  I like the rhymes, which flow well.

We probably wouldnt buy this, but we enjoyed it and would recommend it as a library book.
